Slap heard through the Dune Ripples that this will be the last year for the Mammoth Mountain Motocross. Extreme pressure from enviro's is forcing them to stop the event. This is what Slap heard, and he don't know the particulars.

Gosh I sure hope not! But it wouldn't surprise me. Mammoth is under attack from many different angles.

Seems like anything that people actually enjoy outdoors is under attack anymore :-(

I haven't heard much about it but looking at the website it sure seems like this is the last year, dammit.

I heard the same thing last summer right after the last race in July. The merchants in town don't want to see it leave, but since the track is on Forest Service land, the FS doesn't want to fight the Enviro's to keep it open. The FS tried finding a private entriprise to take it over, especially the Ski Resort itself, but I heard nobody stepped up. Mammoth Mountain is now owned by a company out of Canada (Intrawest), and I am sure for them having a Motorcross track means very little to them. Intrawest owns Squaw Valley, Vail, Copper Mountain, and a few other resorts I believe. One MC Track could cause them more headaches than it is worth to them.

Anybody want to step up and take control???

Intrawest has bought alot of golf courses here in Texas. And I hate to hear that it's the last year. Looks like i'll have to come enjoy it for the last time. Peace
