This last trip one side got to clicking pretty loud so I'm guessing that one of the CVs is broke. I currently have Gear Ones.
What is the hot ticket on the toughest 930s out there and how much. I think I remember around $450-$500 for a set of 4.
Thanks

Got her cleaned up and drove around the block. Noise is only in second so it is a main shaft/second gear. Hopefully the R&P is OK. Bill at AZ Transaxle will get the honors.

I use, basic german 930's from anywhere, about 50 bux, then use 300m cages gear one or fodrills about 90 each, then I use one size smaller balls so then you dont have to race prep them. Works like a champ. If you have midboard hubs and the outer race look fine, just change out the inner stuff and save yourself some serious time!

Only problem is at least on the Funco a regular CV has a 0 fit or tiny bit of press into the centerboard hub. The gear one CVs are all machined .005 on the od. A hair on your head is .003 so it is not much but just enough to slip in vs pressing in.
Guess I could set them up in a lathe, indicate in, and do a skim cut. I am guessing at least for now the CVs are ok since the tranny is broke.

just change the inner part. Highly doubt the outer is damaged or worn.

Hey tomfish
How confident are you with that set-up you are talking about...I did what you did and went out last weekend...we were leaving camp for our first ride and i heard clicking, so i asked my friend to get in the backseat and listen in for me. He said it was coming form the outboard passanger side. Everything was well greased and in in the correct place...we got 300 yards from camp went up a little humb and ka-boom! Both outboard sides break. Got back to camp and took it all apart anf the cages had broke. A star was badly chipped. Luckly I had to used CVs that i was gonna use as spares, we slavaged what we could ( cages were brand new, stars were on ok condidtion) and put everything back together. Went for a test run and still heard clicking sound, but now from the outboard passager side. My problem is...do i dish out the big money for the race prep stuff or do I try it again? I really gotta figure out why they are clicking. Car is a wicked 44O horsepower with a mendi 2d using 930's

I am going to pull mine this summer and regrease them. I have always wondered if the outers and the stars could be coated with a high friction coating like JE puts on there Piston skirts. Just a thought. Could help with wear?

I have run that setup for 3 seasons now with 10-12 trips per season. and my other car for one season, running hard. And the builder has used that combination in over 200 of his turnkey cars without a problem. Everyone says the clocking thing is a good idea and I'm sure it is, but I have never done it. Are you sure you only used 1 size smaller and not more, and are you sure the cvs were installed correctly? If they were put together wrong they will not make it too far.

you only grease your cv's once a season? If so what kind of grease are you using. I need that kind. I have to add grease after every other trip. (cat gold)

I have been running Redline Grease from McKenzies. It seems to work good. I know people will talk a ton of crap but I only clean, inspect and ad new grease every other season. Last time I had them apart they looked new. Bought great parts and I think the grease is up to the challange.
