I was over at APB's house last week and he showed me an ad in the SD Cycle Trader for a 2 seat Amplified car with a turbo'd (Integra?) motor. Asking price was $20,000. Why so cheap for a long travel car?
Reasons have already been discussed among a few people I know but, I was wondering if anyone knows the owner or has seen the car in person?
Pretty much exactly what I'd like to have...
Long travel 2 seater with a turbo Integra motor...
Didn't think I could do it for that (ballpark) price.
Thanks.

I think that I heard a story bout that car. I think I heard it was wrecked and sold cheap, then the guy who bought it put the car back to together ran for a few seasons and I guess now is selling. Don't know for sure, but there can't be two many 2 st amplified's with reverse rotattion honda motors in them. Still interested to see what trans is in it.

don't buy a car that has had severe damage unless you are buying just for parts

You don't want that car! Seth and I built that car 3-4 years ago, It was never supposed to be a car. It was just bars thrown together to get the basic idea of what we wanted to build. Its a slapped together POS. It's been beat and rolled. It's a lemon for sure. Seth sold it for $7,000 running to the previous owner. Nobody did anything to make it worth 20,000.

We knew there was something wrong with it. I don't have plans on buying that car... it'll be awhile before I commit to any sort of buggy. Just thought it was interesting and figured someone knew what was going on... and you guys did.
Thanks.

Not trying to start anything, but why would you guys let such a POS leave your shop knowing your rep could be at stake?

A freind of mine is the one that bought the car for $7000 from Seth put a few G's into it used it for a few months then sold it. I dont know who has the car now but I got a good look at the car before it was sold and it wasnt all that bad just a bent cage that could easily be fixed and a tired motor. This was the 2 seater on Amplifieds website for the longest time. Very very WIDE car that had decent travel just set up way to stiff.

I don't know, Ask Seth, I don't work there anymore. Maybe he needed the money to keep the doors open.

Sorry but Im going to let Seth post specs and any info on this car if he chooses to. All I will say is when my friend bought the car it did need some attention but I would not say that Seth sold an unsafe car!

What tranny does it use?

Feb 20 2004, 06:28 PM
It is a 091 spinning backwards with a home made cable shift. All the gears are spinning on the ramp side.

And he never had a problem breaking the tranny??? I was doing alot of research about putting an H22A in a buggy, but I had more than a few people tell me that running on the ramp side of the r&p would cause tranny problems. They said the only way around it was to run a mendi, cause they were the only people who make a rev rotation R&P. But if your buddy has no problem with his....

Seth never had a problem with the tranny, I'm sure one of the other owners did though. I wouldn't recommend running on the ramp side. There's a company that makes an upside down bell housing for the 091. If you did that and figured out how to get oil where you need it I am sure you would be in much better shape. Should someone change the title of this post?

Seen the car in the trader this morning and its looks way different now than it did when seth sold the car! I wouldnt be afraid of this car if the cage was replaced right. The price of the car seems to keep going up though, Seth sells it for 7k my friend sells it for 16 or 17k and know its up for 20k. How many of you can get a 2 seater with over 20" travel and a turbo motor for that price???

Anyone know why it would now be worth $26,000?

Its funny watching this post!! dtgormican is right.. it was never suposed to be a car. I sold it mainly for someone to use as parts, but then it got fixed up. It could have been a geat little car, just needed to be dialied in. As far as the tranny goes.. for the HP that was being made.. I dont think that there would be ANY trouble for at least a few years... Running on the "ramp" side is not the best thing.... but once again, I never had a problem and the last time that i talked to one of the owners... they didnt either. (other then poping out of 4th, but it did that from day one). From what i saw.. the repairs made were not bad. I sold it 2 years ago because i need the $$ for the 2nd building I got. Here is a pic..

Just means the tranny is operating on the backside of the gears.

Tag I'm it.......I'm not feeling the love??? LOL. I know the history and took that into account when I bought it for $15,500. I have the tools and ability to make all and any repairs that would ever come up, I plan on doing many frame and safety upgrades. I was looking for a 13' long car to fit with my bikes in the trailer. I wanted a project car that I could take out for x-mas and play with while I start the upgrades. It is one of the coolest 2 seat mid engine sand play cars Ive seen. Im 6'1" and its very spacious. Here are some pics of it as it was when I bought it.
Seems fair to me........

i'm friends with eric (seller) and rode in that car, i'm 6'6" and fit fine, which is rare, if i had the $$ right now i would have seriously considered it. that thing is fast, handles great and rides plush. it's a killer car for the price. you should have a lot of fun with it.
