dont quote me on this, but I BELIEVE that 2 stroke quads get red stickers, which are only legal to ride in the desert between the months of like September through May, or something like that, I bought an out of state Warrior here in San Diego cheap it had a red sticker, the original owner didnt want to deal with not having a green, so I bought it, when registration was up the next year they sent me a green, who knows why, but I wasnt going to question it, I got a good deal on the quad, I may be wrong with my info, but that is what I have been informed with. call the DMV or a dealership and ask, they would definately know more than me, good luck

2002 and older models get green stickers. Most newer bikes get red stickers although there are a few that squeeked by with a green, due to smog laws. rolleyes.gif They are all four stroke I believe.

Ian, in 98, they came out with the red sticker program but it was ammended in 2002. Bikes that had red stickers from 98-2002 were given green when the registration was due.
SHOCKER
Yeah my 89' blaster has a green, now my 04' z400 is also a green

Man you guys freaked me out for a second. Im glad i dont have to deal with that red sticker business. By the way, i think you should go with the blaster. Ive ridden one and it hualed my 180 pound butt around the dunes nicely.

the green/red sticker program is/was a mess!!! and not all 4 strokes get green!!!

youll have to get a used blaster to get a green sticker one bro...and jus so ya know...except for the 04 models...all the previous models are EXACTLY the same!!!

Ive had my blaster for ages...it still runs like a champ! your MUCH better off finding a used one that someone else has already fixed up!!! icon_cool.gif

I beleive the "new" green/red sticker program got rid of the riding season restrictions. Sometimes ya just get lucky. My 99 KX250 has been green stickered since new. However, my buddy has the same bike as myself and he was red stickered untill this year. And "no" my bike does not have the exemption in its VIN.

thanx guys for all the help

well ooh la la, mine is a 2000 ktm 250EXC 2 stroke and came green stickered from new.

go with a 2 stroke, a blaster is fine, but go big! you KNOW you want to. a trx 250r would fly with a little guy like you. makes racing a whole lot more fun.

Get a used 250 honda or suzy 2-stroke they are both great bikes. You will probably want one in a few months after you master the blaster.

I know two people with 03 banshees and they both got green stickered I don't know if it was a mistake at DMV or if there was some sort of exemption but I also heard that the red sticker deal was repealled. Who knows anymore, but I am not going to be the one to show up at DMV to ask and give them a heads up and suddenly they start giving everyone a red sticker. ph34r.gif

If the 8th digit of the VIN number is a "Y", then you have a green sticker vehicle.

If the 8th digit of the VIN number is a "Y", then you have a green sticker vehicle.

This may have changed, but it "used" to be, that as long as the 8th digit was NOT a "C" or a "3" it was green sticker eligible.

But right there, it shows how mixed up this stupid program has been from the beginning. One diesel bus emits more crap in one day than any ohv is going to emit in probably three or four years. Just another front the azzzwipe eco-nazi's are taking to get our toys taken away from us.
