Pastor had to put down his best friend in the whole world today. Baja was, well, for me anyway, one of the best dogs I've ever known. Always there to make you smile, and always there to defend.
I'm sure lots of you have pics and memories of Baja as well. Post em up here for him!!!
Hang in there Brian, there are lots of us that will miss Baja too, but none of us as deeply as you...

I can totally relate. On April 10, it will be the 2 year anniversary that I had to put my best friend and chief of security to sleep. It was/is by far the hardest decision i've had to make to date.
I got through it by hanging my favorite pictures of Boris in every room of our house. That way I feel like he still has an eye on things.
Know that your friends and dune family are crying with you.

QG here...
I have tears in my eyes at this news, Baja has been part of the GD.com family ever since I have been around, always had his ball ready for fetch and stood ready for anything the Pastor needed. One of the greatest dogs ever that is for sure....
Brian and Baja gave me a GOAL when we adopted our white fluff ball pup off the street 3 years ago...I hoped that I could have as great as a dune dog as Baja is...be able to be friendly to humans and doggie friends alike, and be ready for a good game of fetch of the tennis ball (Storman Norman's kids bring out a new ball every trip now) was around but to protect what is theirs if some shady characters come around. Thank you for inspiration to both of you, Brian I remember many fireside talks and getting your input on how to form a great dune dog.

I firmly believe you succeeded in raising a great best friend and great GD.com family member and thank you for all the years of advice and leading by example! Angel is a better dune dog for your awesome example and we are better dune dog parents...
May you find peace in the many years that you boys shared in the Pastor Van

and know that he was ALWAYS part of this crazy family we share and will be DEARLY missed!

to you Pastor, please feel free to call me if you need anything at all!
RIP and

to Baja, a long time family friend, mentor, and the best dog I have ever known! You'll be missed my friend, may you be running in the dunes free and young, and watch over your Dad. We all miss you buddy!
Doug, Cortni, Angel and the kids...

Thank you everyone for the very kind words.
Baja was unique for sure. One thing I always knew was that he had friends who cared about him and always looked forward to seeing him.
The hole in my heart is great but indeed, he was a member of this GD.com family and I know that his loss is being felt far and wide.
The stories I could tell about his adventures with you, his friends would go on forever. You brought joy to him and he loved each and every one of you.
And yes, Mike, the decision was tough, but not that tough. It was time. He was tough to the end but when the end came it was clear and obvious.
No, the decision wasn't that tough. Living with the decision will be.
Rest assured I am planning something to celebrate his life and the gift he gave me. Something that is worthy of a true friend.
Baja is gone, but he will not be forgotten. That I promise.
Thank you everyone.

Brian

I am so very sorry you have lost your best friend! I know your heart is hurting and will hurt for a long time. You know if you need anything at all I'm here for you!

I only met Baja just over a year ago when he and Brian became our roomies. Baja was a little confused for a couple days but settled right in.
It was quite a change for the two of them for sure! Bachelors for a long time and all of a sudden living in a house with another person, a dog and a CAT!!! Fast forward two months and I throw a spazzy kitten into the mix!!

Baja never batted an eye.....he just took it all in stride! That was how Baja rolled! He took to my little Maggie right away and was head over heals in love with her!
Of course, I was head over heals for Baja immediately too! All he had to do was look at me with those big brown eyes and perk up his ears and smile at me and I melted!
My heart will always have a special place for Baja. As will Maggie, Miss Kitty and Izzy!
RIP my sweet Baja Baby Boy. We will miss you!

I had the pleaser of meeting Baja a few years back.
It was my first EPO I was invited to I didn’t know any one.
I walked in to camp and the first person to greet me wasn’t a person at all, it was Baja.
He walked up to me and looked up at me as to say hi I am Baja, welcome friend.
Every EPO that he was at he always came up to me to say hi.
He will be truly missed.
