E you talking about the south side of the 78?

most of the non designated riding areas outside of OW are not enforced.

I will tell you to stay away from Anza Borrego state park though, found out that one the hard way.

from the map links ( that link above will have the old and new map links) looks like areas to the north have been opened
Crusty
Correct ESCO.

I saw that on the various OW websites as well.

Great news!

So what are they saying is the new area? The area east of Pole Line? If so, I always thought that was part of the park anyway?

We went to Superstition last weekend and finally did the ride over to Ocotillo Wells. It was actually pretty fun and not difficult at all. I will definitely make a it a ritual on future visits.

Maybe I need to pull out my old map but it doesnt look any different than I remember.

east of pole line was always open just labeled "limited use"

we usually do the ow to superstition run on most trips. where we camp in ow it is a 55 mi round trip ride. good times for sure.

sraptor.gif gotcha, we usually head east or south and didn't look at the north end. that's where a boundary mistake cost me over $300 wife.gif guess I wont have to worry about that any more
UTV Mayhem

Was there over Easter. I camp just east of the end of pole line at the end of the westward running paved road by the line of trees south of SR 22. Yes there were quite a few camping down in the area west by north of there.

I hate say this but here is what I am thinking. 1cheff.gif

a year or two ago they had some drilling equipment out along poleline road and were checking for possibly tapping into geothermal energy out there. well the equipment is gone, but have read some stuff lately that indicates that they (mayor villaragosa) wants to build some powerlines from "salton sea" to los angeles. I don't know if the two are related, but if they are then the newly opened land might be to compensate for possible closures around the wells. dunno.gif

I can only hope that I am incorrect.

and if you don't like OW, try it on two wheels and it will never be the same.

mudpuppy
It's not Vilaragosa, it's SDG&E. They are being forced to take the southern route leaving our riding areas alone.

What I was reffering to can be found on the following site click

It is the mentioning of "geothermal energy" from salton sea that makes me worry, not the power line's necessarily.
