My wifes bike. When shifting form 1st to 2nd, it goes in, then pops into neutral. The cable for the cluch is streched pritty good. I have it adjusted all the way, and then some. I rigged it in the dunes.
Is this a cluch problem? Are the disks worn out? Are we talkin more of a problem?

Sounds like a shifter fork to me, shouldn't have anything to do with the cable at all nor the clutch.
Time to pull it apart i'm thinkin

I HAD A 87 SHEE AND IT WOULD NOT DOWN SHIFT AND SHIFTER WAS LOOSE (LOT OF FREE PLAY UP & DOWN) IT TURNED OUT TO BE A RETAINER PIN AT THE SHIFT STAR. $15 FOR THE PARTS.

This shift star, it is inside the case? In other words, gotta split it? How hard is it to change. I have never split a case before. I have rebuilt top ends.
Here are some pics of the cluch. I have never done a cluch before, It looks toast to me.

What do you guys think?

ID SAY DONT SPLIT THE CASE YOURSELF ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE.
TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO HAVE THEM SPLIT IT. IT RUNS ABOUT $150 BUT IF THEY CRACK THE CASE THEY ARE LIABLE FOR REPLACING IT. IF YOU CRACK IT YOURSELF THEN YOU NEED TO FIND A NEW CASING.
THATS WHAT I WOULD DO IF I WERE YOU.

NO YOU DON'T NEED TO SPLIT THE CASE TO REPLACE THE SHIFT STAR IT IS UNDER THE SIDE COVER ON THE SIDE WITH THE CLUTCH SO YOU SHOULD HAVE IT EXPOSED BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE CLUTCH OUT. THE SHIFTER ROD COMES THRU ON THAT SIDE AND HAS A V FORK ON THE END. THIS ENGAGES THE SHIFT STAR. IT LOOKS LIKE A GEAR WITH PINS STICKING OUT ON EACH SPROCKET
HOPE THIS HELPS

Clutch is gone. Do the shift star mod. No need to split the cases. You'll see it once you pull the clutch. Alot of companies sell them and shops will do it for you. There's always some on ebay

Also look at your shift shaft where it looks like a C. You might need a new one of those too because your spring is probably wasted loose like my girl.
