Alright folks my wife drove the buggy off the trailer tonight and she hates the shifter

She says it's to hard to shift. She said "REPLACE THIS, IT SUCKS"

I said "OK"

Here is my question. I just have one of those weld on boxes with a EMPI shifter on it. I need to find a sealed unit the is as tall as the EMPI shifter. I have only seen short ones. Does anyone make a tall sealed shifter ? I don't care if it's polished, it will be under a console, I just need the height of the tall shifters.

I got one of the nice Scat Drag fasts for christmass this year and LOVE it.
I've had stock VW shifters, fancy bugpack T-handle, cheapie $12 T-handle, and a really funky electric solenoid shifter - and out of all of them the Scat blows the rest away no question. Unfortunatly as expensive as it was I wasn't going to spend my own money to find that out

Otherwise I would have upgraded years ago

I like the Supershifter on top of the metal weld on box. If you add one of Tatum Motorsports billet shift knobs it gives it more leverage and is extremely easy to shift.

There are only two minor issues I've had with the Scat.
One is entirely my fault - I'm not used to being able to use such a light touch to shift gears

I still try to gorilla arm it and the Scat dosn't seem to like that - but when I relax and just gently urge it into gear it slides right in. I'm just not used to such a smooth easy working shifter!
The other is I'm not used to the position it returns to. It's spring loaded to line up for 3rd and 4th while my old shifters would default to 1st and 2nd. I can see how it makes climbing the gears faster since it will move over to the right for you automatically but it does take a tiny bit of getting used to. Espically when going for 1st and you're used to just pushing forward not pulling over then pushing forward. But I'm sure I'll adjust to that fairly quickly.

I like my "Gene Burg" shifter and they make them in all kinds of sizes, there a little pricey .

hey all...I dug up this thread on shifters and I had a quick question. I have the empi shifter that looks kinda like this[attachmentid=22992]
I was wondering is a shift knob like this one from tatum would screw right on there or what would I have to do to get it to fit. [attachmentid=22991]
Thanks for any help.
What up to all those "ridge runners" out there. I just hit 100 post. Mad love to this site !!!

Call Tatum and find out what their thread size and pitch is and compare it to the one on your shifter. Should just screw on and off.

Revenge made me one using a couple a heims and a lubed housing.. Ill take pics of it next week, but its the smoothest one Ive ever shifted including Fortins shifter. My problem is that I have a 5th gear and very few people make a shifter with the extra throw in it..

I am looking into using the Scat Drag shifter with an 091. The Scat shifter for the VW Bus (#80503) has a longer stick on it than the one for the Bug (#80500). The longer stick is not needed in a sandrail. Can one use the #80500 Bug Scat Drag shifter with a Bus transaxle? Do the different types of VW transaxles (using a front nose cone shift) shift the same and the only difference between these shifters is the length of the arm?
How do the Scat Drag shifters compare to the Jamar Super Shifter?

Here are some pictures of the Revenge Racing Rod End shifter. There are 2 models, one for the Albins and one that fits Fortin, Mendeola, or VW trans.

The shifters are $375 for either model...you can buy them at McKenzies, Weddle, or straight from Revenge.

Thanks, that's not really all that bad for that kind of quality. Unless of course, you've got all the tools and equipment at home to do it yourself......... Might take a little talent too

No reverse lockout on the Revenge? That's my biggest comlaint about the cheap shifter I use in my rail (compared to the Scat in my Manx) the lockouts don't. With the lockout it's real easy for me to up or down shift into 2nd.
Without a lockout I always seem to end up in reverse or 4th when I grab for 2nd
