For many weeks I spent a lot of time at SCU. Of course that was when my car was being built. Since my car has been done, almost 2 yrs now, I have not spent nearly as much time at SCU as I once did. That may be a good thing for Don and Kathy. I like to consider myself a friend of theirs and I hope vice versa.
I have done Don favors in the past and he has certainly done favors for me. But today when I woke up I realized, it has been a long long time since I stopped in at SCU. I felt bad, as if I was letting a friend down. But then I realized why that is the case. It's really two fold. One, I did take on a new job so I don't have nearly the free time I once had. But I think even above that is, I just don't think of going to SCU.
That is not to say I don't think of my friends, I DO! But I don't think of SCU. Normally when you think of your builder, you think of maintenance, repairs and new parts. Since I bought my new car, I have not had to repair or replace a single nut bolt or washer on any part. Well that is not entirely true, I did have a tranny issue from Rancho that SCU and Rancho promptly fixed. People talk alot about great customer service and how well their builder takes care of them...and that is great...if you need it. In two years I have not needed a single thing except gas, and oil and that tranny repair. Customer service is great IF you need it. But it's even better when you dont. The downside is when you by a great car, you may loose contact with valued friends.
I write this for two reasons. One to again point out the great quality of SCU cars (call it a shameless plug if you wish) But also to say to Don and his lovely wife(her birthday today) thanks fro everything. I appreciate all that you have done for me, my family and this sport. Even though I don't get there to see you guys, I still think about you and consider you great friends.
