1. You can never have "too much truck".
2. Swing the turns reeeeealy wide.
3. ALWAYS VISUALLY check to see that the claw fingers in the hitch are clamped on the pin before pulling away.
4. Swing the turns reeeeealy wide.

I have a WW that measures 44'7" on the tape, I have no problems towing it with my F350 dually but I wish I had at least the F450 or even the F550 because they are better built for the application.

38' Forrest River, use to pull it with '01 F350 V10 on 37" tires and 3:73 gears....trans didnt like that AT ALL, then pulled it with '99 F550 flatbed, 7.3L powerstroke manual with 4:88 gears, truck didnt even know it was there. Now pull it with '08 F450, 4.88 gears. Tows really nice, still lets me know its back there going up steep hills.
Take turns REALLY wide, but you will learn your tolerances quickly. I drive down very narrow windy roads and can thread that trailer in alot of places that most people dont think it will fit.

You need enough truck to pull it with first of all. I had a warranty problem with my f450 08 and my good buddy let me borrow his chevy 2500 4wd and I almost killed it in one trip to G. I bought the one with 430 gears for the fwy and I can cruise at 75 with a 47 ft ww at 30,000 gvw with water, big rail , rhino and gear. I pass mohos on the fwy.

Like everyone said buy the biggest truck you can afford then go trailer shopping.
I had my truck 3 years before

I bought the trailer I just couldnt pass the deal up.
Also like everyone else said swing wide and also watch the driveway entrances...if the are too steep you will scrape in the rear.
Set the cruise at 55 and cruise to the dunes without the stress of lane swapping, brake checking or any other white knuckle causing factor.

I would look into buying a used F 450 right now. You can pick them up for under 40k all day. The 4.88 gears tow very well but your top speed is about 82mph @3500rpm. I can pull my machine around with no problems other than the fuel mileage, which is 4.5 towing. 11.0 not towing. The new Dodge is supposed to be a better package for towing than the Fords. I am right at 24000 lbs with the machine and trailer, and you know its back there. Good luck!

With any truck/trailer it's all about weight. The truck has to be rated for the weight of the trailer. If you are overloaded you are taking your, my, and everyone else on the road's life in your hands! Keep in mind, bigger tires, lift kits, etc. all effect the weight rating of the truck. Get a REAL weight on the trailer, fully loaded, this is the only number that matters. Don't guess!
On a heavy 5ver a dual rear wheel truck is much more stable, as is a longer wheelbase(long bed crew cab). Also, trailer tires affect your towing. Replace your tires with the heaviest rated TRAILER tires (trailer tires have heavier sidewalls) you can get, and run them hard (max psi). This reduces sidewall flex, which creates heat, which causes failure. They will also help reduce trailer sway and rolling resistance.
When I first got my '03 36' Tahoe Transport (14,100 GVW) and loaded all my normal stuff I found I was way over weight! I went through the trailer head to toe and eliminated everything I didn't really need. This included extra food (do you really need 12 cans of soup, for two people???), clothes, blankets, tools, parts, etc. I only packed what I would really NEED. With full gas, water, and propane, and my Ranger I am just under 14K lbs. Barely! My Chev crew cab dually is rated at 15.5K and handles this trailer pretty well.
FYI, both my partner and I tow 5ver enclosed trailers for business, each weighing around 15K 2-3 days a week for the last ten years, as well my camping trailer. The above is what we have learned from ten years of towing these trailers. I hope it helps you guys.

I towed this 41 footer for 3 seasons with a Ford F350 Dully diesel. Was never a problem pulling it, it had plenty of power. I just didnt feel safe stopping it. Blew a tranny seal once in it and you can feel the stress it puts on a 1 ton (especially the tranny).
I switched over to this Sport Chassis and its like night and day. Put it on cruise control 55-57 and it only pulls 1400 RPM. When I need to stop it...no problems at all. I feel much safer pulling a big 5th wheel with a bigger truck.

as all else have said, put your money into the truck, going big will never let you down. I am assuming you are going with diesel, don't even consider a gas truck.
after towing a little while you won't think about the extra length as that big of an issue.
it only sucks when there are limited spaces available when you go to plug in campground.

CR3905 with a 2001 GMC 3500.
1. After you visually check the jaws, do a pull test every time. Raise the jacks about a 1/2" off the ground hop in the truck and engage the trailer brake, put the truck in gear and give it a little tug.
2. Swing Waaaaaaay wide on turns.
3. Make sure that your tow rig is equipped with an EGT gauge.
4. The duramax/allison combo has the "grade braking" which works very well. If you go Ford or Dodge I'd add an exhaust brake. Your rotors will thank you.
5. Get good Tow mirrors, I have aftermarket extended mirrors, but the convex portion is too small. I plan on upgrading to the 06 tow mirrors in the near future.
Pulling this thing down the road is a dream, it's the parking lots and tight turns that can be kind of sketchy.
