purty sad when you gotta plan for your safety on your vacation trip

Maybe I'm wrong, but this is my perception on anything we do off-road:

This is a very dangerous sport. There are so many ways you can get hurt or loose your life, I can't even remember em all.

Is your truck safe? Tires in good condition? Rated for the load you are hauling?

Is your trailer safe? Tires, generator, gas cans secured properly? Is it loaded correctly so it won't sway all over the road? Is your hitch set up correctly? Got enough water in it?

How bout your toys? Everything in good condition? There are so many things here to check there is no way to list em all...

How bout campfire safety? Does everyone in your group know how to deal with a fire pit properly? How to light it without burning yourself? What do with it when you go home so the next person isn't hurt by it in any way? Broken glass and nails removed?

How bout when your out riding? Do you know all the rules? Do you have a good leader that will keep you out of trouble? Flags? Lignts working? Do you gas up everytime you come back from a ride, so you dont forget when your headed out?

Do you have a first aid kit thats equiped with everything you might need? Do you have all the emergency numbers you might need if anything goes wrong?

How bout tools you might need to get yourself out of a bind?

How bout the people you camp with???? Are they people just waiting to get you in trouble? Or are they people you know you can depend on??

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SPORT!!!!!!!!!!!

Safety should always be planed for FIRST, the fun will just naturally happen. It's hard to have a bad time in G.

2 quickest ways to have a bad time... someone gets really hurt or you stay with a bunch of jerks.

I agree with your assessment RM! Safety takes work... a whole lot more than carelessness!

I would need to know in what context that was taking from?
Maybe he meant having to pack an arsenal to protect his life from bad elements? and that is sad....

sounds like the checklist we go through before we head out on a trip... dunno.gif

how about propane tanks, lines and leak detectors??

do you drive with your electrical on or off?

Do you drive with your fridge on Propane? Ever conidered the pilot blowing out, and propane just pouring into your trailer, so when you start your bikes BOOM??

Just my .02...

I've always done that as well. Mr. Beretta is my little friend when ever I'm out in the dez, or anywhere else far away from home for that matter.

But since you asked...

I'm thrilled that I've only had one of those scenarios. I've not been with someone who's gotten injured.
Lucky for me, I've met GD.com'ers who have shown me some real good times.

Just to add to camp fire safety--- Little kids walk around the out side of the sitting group, not between you and the fire.
