ok just got my taxes back and im quiet happy and cant wait to get the checks so i can get new suspension for my bike. i own a 2002 yamaha banshee with stock suspension. motor is farely stock just pipes, air filter and outer wears. thats about it for now, i will be upgrading later.
my goal is to set my bike up for dual sport (high desert and sand). so far i have been able to do this with bigger brighter lights and a desert with a few more goodies.
now its time for suspension. i originally wanted long travel but i dont think i can afford it but the idea isnt totally out of the question.. i have a rough budget of $1100-$1500 +/- $100. i want the best set up i can get for this money.
now here is my question. what set up will be good for me. i was thinking of 2+1 on th arms or even a 3+1 on them with dual rate with res. ijust dont know the brand i should get. i hear Works are ok but for more duning style riding. i want something that will hold up better to the high desert than the sand but not be so stuff its unconfortable. i hear good thing about TCS but i dont know if they are good for dual sport.
also what brand a arms are better. i hear there is a good package deal from ricky stator and from alba. which is better? i heard ricky stator has some package for like $900 for 3+1 with triple rate w/ res. but i think that guy was a BullShiater big time cuz i ask ricky about that price and he quoted me different.
let me know some info on these suspensions an which one is better for my bike and my plans.
thanks

My (biased) opinion is to go with Ricky. A friend of mine rode Baja with him for years, and I've seen his work in A-arms and a swingarm on another friend's Banshee, very nice. You might ask him if the price would change if you came in with the Cable Guy's kid...

see i figured i would most likely go with him too cuz i have some friends i use to ride with that have hopped up banshee and they were gettin prototype swingarms and stuff like that from ricky to try out. so i might walk in with them when i buy if i cant get ahold of them then illl ask that question and see.

Well you have seen my set-up, over Xmas I grabbed the +4 swingarm, which gave me the full package. +2+1 a arms, w/ works triple rate w/ res. up front, and +4 longer, +4 wider, with works quadsport rear shock, in the back, it rides and jumps soooo smooth. I only have a couple of complaints about what I have, its not performance, its customer service. From Alba I didnt appreciate the customer service, they could never seem to pick up the phone or return phone calls, the parts came in 3 weeks late, and when I had questions about the products, nobody seemed to know or care to know. With works, I blew out a bump stop on one front shock, called them up, they were totally rude, and was telling me how I rode and how I broke the stop. they are also bad about returning phone calls, and getting things done on time, if the cost is not much more, go with someone you can trust, who is a little more customer oriented, I think part of the problem with alba, is they were getting ready to move when I bought my A arms, and had just moved when I bought my swingarm, but that still doesnt explain the lack of wanting to help.
good luck, we are hitting glamis March 13th, (if I get my shocks back by then) interested?

If you are into desert look at elkas shocks and some +3+1 a arms or long travel with with longer shocks. I have the +3+1 with works tripple rate with rezies and they work great for glamis but for desert I dont know.

Burgard makes some really nive arms, they are really strong and look good, for the shocks TCS would probably be the best bang for the bucks

ian i wish i could go but i think that will make 5 weeks in a row i have gone out and i need to be home for at least 1 weekend to get some work done around the house. but i think my crew might be up for one more trip to gordons near the end of the month.
leadfoot i was thinking about the 3+1 standard travel. with either dual or triple rate shocks. i just want to steer away from works if possible. mainly cuz i think works are the bottom line aftermarket shock there is but im not saying they are not good. i think ill go with ricky stators set up with maybe some tcs shocks w/res. if posssible.
alba priced me with 2+1 arms, break lines, and elka shocks for close to $1700 out the door. but they dont have anything bigger than a 2+1 arm and i think i want to go with something alittle bigger.
thanks for your info

I have had two sets of the JD performance a-arms they have been great. Consider the elkas get the shock you want with no rez they will add it later if you need it for the saved price. Then if you are not experiencing any shock fade you won't need them.
