I finally obtained a Honda 125M motor. I'm looking to make this motor SCREAM!!! This is going to go into my TRX70.

What motor mods have you guys done to these or know that can be done?

Here's what I'm thinking:

Bore (how big can I go?)
Port and polish the head (is there a better head out there?)
Bigger carb (mikuni 26mm? jetting?)
Bigger cam? (what is there out there?)
A hotter CDI?

Heavy duty clutch? (Where do I find this?)
Hi volume oil pump? (where do I find this?)

What am I missing?

I plan on using the Sterdy exhaust I have and modify it to fit.

Any good websites or stores for 125M stuff?

What are the pains of putting this in 70 frame? I have already seen that I'll need a different chain or sprocket set. I'm also going to weld a front engine mount on the frame to support the head. What else?

Thanks.

Here's what I'm thinking: PLEASE DONT!!
Bore (how big can I go?) GO SMALLER...OR ADD PEDALS!!!
Port and polish the head (is there a better head out there?)
Bigger carb (mikuni 26mm? jetting?)
Bigger cam? (what is there out there?)
A hotter CDI?

Heavy duty clutch? (Where do I find this?)
Hi volume oil pump? (where do I find this?) Nowhere...nobody wants you to do this project...we sent out an alert!
What am I missing? A BRAIN....straight Sexual prefrence.....Common Sense!!!! lmao.gifI plan on using the Sterdy exhaust I have and modify it to fit. Use Pedals...No MOTOR!

Any good websites or stores for 125M stuff? There are NONE!!

That's why I need some info. I'm not going to say...$2k or some other price. What are the options...what's the cost for each. At the end of the day, this is going in a camp bike...gotta keep things in perspective.
Crusty
Call CT Racing.

Nobody will have anything on a website for this ATC....But I bet you Alan @ CT can hone it out, slap in a larger piston and do some head flow work to get every pony outta it.

But you gotta call them. They've done LOTS for HONDA ATC's over the years.

I did quite a bit of internet searching a little while back when I scored my basket case TRX125 engine. A couple of the places that did 90/110 cams can help there, but I never found any one place with say a kit or anything even close for these horizontal Honda's. Was hoping initially I'd find someplace like Zeek's Performance Honda 125m Strokers. Or Acme's 125m Based Big CC Fun Factory. I came across reference to 90 and 110 strokers being built back in the day that claimed to approach 200cc ish, but I was into 2 wheelers back then so I don't remember those enough to confirm. Not hard really, just need to touch on somebody with some of that oldschool knowledge. I found a guy that is into S90's of all things, and has done a custom bore and stroke taking one of those up to a claimed 160cc. I really think for the right engine builder/machinist the limits wouldn't be that hard to determine. A matter of measuring, and then crossing the numbers with what's available parts wise. I'm still waiting to hear back from this particular S90 guy on max bore, stroke, valve size, and can S90 manual clutch parts be used as a conversion on a 125m/trx engine. I figured the porting would be the last thing I'd focus on by comparing to similar cc chinese engines. In the end, I'm now unfortunately leaning away from the OE engine for several reasons, but I am continueing to investigate the Honda 125 option.

Be sure to post up what luck you do have on the Honda 125. If nobody in here pops up with a fantastic lead, it's going to take more investigation on your part than the several hours and starting threads that I did.

So that's it? The only thing I got out of this is Poule is covering up his battle with his own sexuality.

I need to get this ball moving people...

Things are coming together and I found a place to do my motor work for me. Now I just need to find a couple of parts, fit the thing in the frame and then off to the shop to turn this thing into a BEAST!

I'm looking for a front head cover with the lollipop on it for the head support. Does anyone have one of these they are willing to get rid of? I think the 110 head cover will work to.

So, just what engine work are they doing that's going to make it a beast????

The sl90 and cl90 engines are the best to work with if you are going to modify. You get the advantages of manual clutch and a much sturdier clutch than the auto clutch and you don't have the hi/lo gearbox. If you could find the parts you could build an engine around 183 cc's or so. To take full advantage of this displacement, you would have to do alot of expensive headwork and find alot of parts that are very hard to find anymore. You have to have a custom sleeve made and rework a motorcycle piston to fit. Also, powroll doesn't make the stroker kits as big as they once did so it's very hard to get all the displacement. It's also very expensive unless you are really great friends with an old school machinist. Many of these engines ran alcohol to run cooler. Also it would be a good ideal to run an oil cooler and modify your oil pump for higher volume. These engines are real hand grenades but fun for short periods of time. Very labor intensive to maintain. You are way ahead to buy one of the aftermarket engines that displace 160 or 170 cc's and you will be way ahead price wise to say the least. To build one of the old school performance engines, I hope you have access to alot of hard to find parts. I try to snatch up anything I can find for the old 90 engines. You probably have a much better chance of finding bits out your way than I do here on the east coast, but I have alot or really cool bits and pieces. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks to Poule...I found a place that carries used parts. Unfortunately the Honda 110 motor parts I need is not interchangeable with a 125M.

So the search continues...dammit.
