=About a month ago we had 2 people (double riding a quad) show up at our house. It turned out they got there truck stuck in the dunes and had tried all day to dig it out. By the time they made the 15 miles to our house they had no water left and where excausted. So we loaded up there quad picked up there friend who's quad had broken down on the way to our house and pulled there truck out of the sand. It was 102 degree that day. The truck was just behind vendors flats, super soft sand this time a year. Those people came here prepaired, plenty of water, tow rope, etc. The first thing they did after they got stuck is, they called the Sheriff"s just to be told they coud not to anything, (yes a Sheriff actually drove out and talked to them). The store also told them that they could not do anything to help. So they called several towing companys in the valley but where told no towing out of the dunes.7Today a guy who was riding by himself (Uhh yes a big no no at anytime) hurt himself. He was lucky enough that he found a camp. He was in really bad shape and to make a long story short he was air lifted to Palm Springs. No word yet how he is doing. Most of the people who come to Glamis in the off season are hard core Glamis people. But for the Summer fist timers:1) Bring your cell phone along the ride. Even if you have no reception your cell phone will always work in emergency mode, just dial 911. Have GPS on your phone so rescue people can find you. 2) Take plenty of water and ice on your ride.3) Never ride or drive alone, have at least 3 vehicles/ side x side or quads with you. If one breaks down and you towing and you break down as well you still have one vehicle left to get you out.4) try to find a way to bring some sunshade with you. Be it a tarp or an umprella.5) for night rides bring flairs.6) bring some snacks in case you are stuck out there for the night.
