im looking to up grade from my 19 ft WW to a 2010 attitude f33aks with a gvwr of 15k. my truck is an 06 dodge 2500 4x4 quad cab short bed and the 5.9 diesel running a 3 inch lift and 35's. i thought it was only rated to tow 13000 max but people are telling me its different if towing a 5er. is this true? any input would help. also i've never towed a 5er so im wondering if a slider hitch is needed and if it is, is an automatic worth the money over a manual?

your truck is rated to tow 16,500 lbs if the trailer is a 5er........ at least thats what the manual says for our 04.5 ram 3500....the 2500/3500 share the same 5er tow ratings.......i think the truck will handle it but you have a short bed so u will need a slider hicth .....trailer brake controller of course and an exhuast brake for that cummins would really be cool..... with those 35 inc tires i hope u have at least 4:10 gears

tow capacities are higher on a 5ver than a tag. check your trucks fifth wheel tow capacity in the manual.
EDIT: it also depends on what model truck you have. i.e. standard cab, short bed, versus a crew cab long bed 4x4 can mean as much as a 2-3k difference in tow capacity for a 5ver. if you are going to play by factory specs for an 06, you are not going to beat a ford for tow capacity. and yes you need a slider.
look up tow capacity on dodge, ford, gubment motors website under 5th wheels. look carefully at the truck you have, and what the mfg ratings are.

I think you would be fine. I pull that same trailer w/ an 02 F250 and have no problem. You would definitely NOT be the most overweight truck out there. I have the manual slider and unless you tend to forget things, it works just fine. If you find a really good deal on an auto slider, I'd go for it

It depends on if you want to stay within the tow ratings of the truck.

hey thanks for the info. after talking to people the manual slider is the way to go, the people i have talked to said they hardly ever use it but when they had they were glad they had a slider. also i see that some people take their entire tailgate off when towing a 5er, is this needed? or is just preference?

preference... and scared of losing thier tailgates...
The auto slide is ideal if you make alot of sharp turns into gas stations, stops on the road, or to park at home... you can find used autoglides out there fairly well priced... nice to know when its raining you don't have to jump out and mess with the hitch...
really amazing to watch too... drive forward its right ontop of you, a slight pivot, and the whole thing slides back and you can't feel a thing... amazing to watch...

Just make sure your tires can handle the pin weight.
Should be no problem.
Do you have airbags?

airbags are a good idea and as for the slider hitch, auto is nice. The price difference is easily made up in insurance deductable costs the first time you forget

I have a bumper-pull, not a 5ver...I've towed with my stock suspension and no bags.
And now a Carli suspension with his long-travel airbags.
Not that it towed bad without them, but it tows WAAAAAY better with them.
Most guys on the Dodge Cummins forums highly recommend airbags for towing.
Now that I have them, I can see why.

well i have the KORE 2.0 on my truck so running anything from Carli would be sacrilegious.

JK.
i looked at that kit on the web site and i like it more than any Airlift kit. if you don't mind me asking how much did it run you? easy install? Bolt-on? did it affect ur ride when not towing?

I worked a trade for them so the price is "classified".
But if you put money into your suspension to get more travel, you're taking a step backward with regular donut-style airbags...they severely limit suspension travel.
Carli bags aren't cheap...but IMHO you get what you pay for. And you get full articulation.
I had Sage install everything at his shop. And I got the bags at the same time as the rest of my setup so I can't comment on the ride without them. But the truck is so much better than stock that I can't complain.
If you have a Kore 2.0 with new rear leafs, then you're gonna have more squat than the stock setup. That's the trade-off with better-riding leafs.

Your truck will have power to spare pulling that trailer. I had the same truck. Brakes were a little lacking and trans got hot pulling hills. But if you dont have a trans gauge no worries.

I have an auto slider for my short bed, granted it cost more, but I planned to buy once and not having any regrets later. Less hassle and woory free. I keep the gate up because I usually place some fire wood back there for the dunes.
