Sand Raptor
My son is 12 years old and I am looking to buy him his first quad. He has very limited riding experience. What quad would be the best for him?????
BeachHead
First, a cheap one, as whatever you get to learn on will get outgrown pretty fast...icon_smile.gif A 300ex would be a great starter I think. Might as well learn how to shift out of the box. You could also look at a warrior, or a blaster. After a year or two, he'll probably be begging you for more..icon_smile.gif
SHOCKER
Yeah the 250ex, 300ex, and blaster would be the best
DUNE
Yeah a 250ex or a blaster, something small enough for him to be comfortable on. Make sure his feet and hands can operate the controls with out having to reach for them...

250 EX WILL BE THE EASIEST FOR A 12 YEAR OLD TO OPERATE, ESPECIALLY IF HE DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE.

Best thing to do is take him to a dealer and size him up to a unit then decide if you want to go new or used I got my dauter a 50 when she was 5 and she grew out of it in 6 months. Then steped up to A 90 she was on that for 2 years out grew that now she is 10 and she has got a 2003 honda 300 ex we kept the 90 while she went through her learning curve well tought her how to shift and away she went doesnt ride the 90 much but we keep it as a spare for now. A 300 ex is a good all around bike very forgiving and you can do mods as he gets older.I ride mt dauters and I pretty impresed on how it luge my 200 pound butt around in the sand. If he becomes an aggressive rider then you will have to move up in a year or two.A exllent starter bike I would stay away from the autumatic tranny and go right to a shifter. The blaster is a good bike if left a lone when you start doing mods to it you are prone to have problems with it. I have know too many people that top end problems with them when mods are done to them. That really ruins a vacation when you have a problem with a bike. Expecialy as expensive as gas prices are getting cost a lot more to go on vacation thease days well good luck and it should be fun picking out that bike for your son.

make it enjoyable....get a 250ex honda....nice enough..has gears...but no clutch....how big is the kid? I have a 13 yr old who weighs 175 and is tall...he rides a 700 and everything else.....but he has 10 years experience.....

I bought my 12 year old a new 250 EX.

Then, when I was convinced he loved quading on the dunes, and was a good rider, and he turned 14, I bought him a super built YFZ 450 and life is great,,,

The YFZ so awsum,, I sold my built Raptor and bought myself one too.
