I have an 86 Honda 250R ATC. The rear axle bearings froze up and the rear axles locked up tight. I got a new set of bearings to put in the rear but when i disassemblied it to install the new bearings the entire sleeve (bearing carrier) in the rear swing arms was destroyed. Can i buy just the rear bearing carrier sleeve or do i need to buy a whole new swingarm?

Unless you know a good welder or metal fabricator, I would get another swingarm.

Try calling LSR, Hermann Racing or any of the swingarm fabricators and ask them if they will sell you the sleeve only. Then take it to a good welder and have it welded.

I think the cheapest and easiest solution is to get another swingarm.

You can buy just the carrier. Should be able to get it with or without bearings.

Got it a little while ago. Bearings were $29.00 and sleeve was $35.00 Way cheaper than a new $600 swing arm.

I bought an used swingarm on Ebay for $40 including shipping. Should have gone that route, cheaper!!

can u show me some pictures? ive been through this 2 times this season and finally i got a break from a member who happend to be getting rid of his old arm. welding on the swing arm is more based on where and how its cracking than who is welding it. welding creates weak spots around the welds and sooner than later it will start cracking again if the condition has progessed beyond repair, i know this because it happend to me.

sandpusher, the axle carrier and the swing arm are two seperate peices. the carrier is an aluminum housding that fits inside the swing arm.

I know Kevin.

Based on what I read from Xtreme, it looks like his problem is with the sleeve from the swingarm, not the bearing carrier.

That's why I mentioned to contact LSR or Hermann Racing. They both fabricate swingarms, so maybe buying the sleeve from them was an option. But I also realize they make bearing carriers as well.

Maybe my response was a bit misleading!!

he mentioned the carrier in ( ) icon_wink.gif

Kevin,

Read the original message again. Also take a look at the picture submitted by HA2.
They are talking about the swingarm itself.

I know he mentioned the bearing carrier in ().
He also mentioned this: Can i buy just the rear bearing carrier "sleeve".

For a moment you got me thinking I might have said something wrong.
But if HA2 is showing a picture of a broken sleeve, he must me thinking the same as me.

Peace!!

its a confusing post and after re-reading it 4000 times, i dont really know exactly what hes talking about, but i think he is refering to the wishbone/bearing carrier itself. i posted what i had after reading "sleeve" and "new swingarm" i figured it couldnt hurt to post my pictures and stories. either way it looks like he got his fix and the ol girl is fixed/gonna be fixed. beer.gif

That's right HA2.

What matter is the problem is solved. That's what this forum is all about.

I think Kevin wants to give me a hard time, he he he.
Just joking. Love the forums.

Keep it up.
