When I use to drive to Glamis ( first from San Diego until I moved to LA) I was just passing by. I stopped for gas, and maybe Von's. I never really looked aroud, I never thougth how people live in the Valley or how they make a living. For me it was always to get to Glamis as fast as I could.
I moved to to Brawley almost 2 years ago. When I first moved here it was Glamis season and I was too busy to realy get into town, just my once a week shopping at Vons.
But once the season was over an all the Duners where gone and the heat went up it was a different place. Just us locals where left. And I startedt looking around. The busy Glaimis comunity became a farm comunity.
IV has one of the highest unemplyment ratetes in California.
I think there is something we can do to change that for the upcoming season. Brawley needs us off roaders to survive.
Buy your new tires, and other truck related parts, you may be suppriesed about the bargain you get.
Buy your trailer supply' in Brawley.
We now have a Walmart in town, get your Glamis weekend shopping done there.
For the girls check out Factory 2 U on Main streett, great apparel bargains.
Our Vons in Brawley has one of the best meat departments, fresh steak specials all the time.
Buy your Season permit in town.
Buy your flags in town.

I grew up there in Calipat, then moved to Imperial, my father worked at the Imperial Irrigation District for 40 years. I have been in San Diego now for about 20 years. The valley is a great place to grow up.

Brawley is considered by us people that are born and raised here the worst city in the valley. Maybe Brawley might need offroaders, but the rest of the valley doesnt. Agriculture, CDC and Mexicali is what supports this valley. Love this valley and will never leave it.

We always make a stop in Brawley for something.
Beer/Food/Ice at Vons.
Gas at ARCO.
Fast food on the way in or out.
Great thread. I'd agree for all those folks that drive thru, stop and buy something. Anything.
Westmoreland as well.

Heber was as bad as Brawley, but with all the new housing here it changed alot. My wife works for CPS, and most of here referals for child abuse and child neglegance are from Brawley. Maybe you need to know the real Brawley, ESB, campo viejo and campo nuevo, or maybe live here and know the area. By the way most of the Heber drug addicts are dead.

We always stop there and buy our groceries at the Von's its nice because there open 24hrs and they always take a company check its a convenience for us because we dont have to pre pack being that we leave our rig at GDS.....I also buy my Race gas at the pump it a little more but worth it to me...the area reminds me alot of a little town close to Santa Maria called Guadalupe...

Just had an idea. Would love to find out who is living in the Valley and is on the GD board. Would be nice to meet some local duners.
What I do love about the Valley is poeple are super nice, not as stressed as in the big city's. You know that you live in a small town and people at Walmart great you with your first name......LOL
