No need to get defensive it was a simple yes or no question.

And no there is not a problem with that. All you need is 60 companies with their logo's and you're set.

Mike , sorry if i seemed like i was getting defensive, i was actual hoping you would say you had a cheaper source.

i have one company committed to 5 k and working on the second one, so if i get two big sponsors that leaves 20 $250 Dollar spots.

i just wanted people to get a chance as i had a lot of complaints that i never give enough company's the choice to be on the bags...Tim

Up to 80.000 bags you need $ 15.000 but asking $ 250 per person so that means you put 60 sponsors on the bags. I have never seen 60 sponsors on any of the bags. And where is the number of 0.64 cents?

And why would they last for 3-4 years with so many people out there all season? Does that mean that only about 20.000 bags are handed out every season? There are more than 20.000 people out there on a busy weekend.

And as far as I remember the bags have been used by many vendors to put the merchandise in and not been used to pick up trash.

Uh I just wonder!!!

If you read what i have said i have two big sponsors 5 k each = 10k that leaves 20 $250 spots on the bag. 250 x 80k = is something like .064 cents per bag

in the past the first order of bags was 66k then 1 year later 44k = 100k they lasted 4 years ,

so to say that 80 k will last 3 to 4 years is accurate.

as far as vendors handing out bags the ASA asked me to distribute bags to the vendors.

If you do not like the bags then do not get involved.

and if you feel that i have not handed bags out in the dunes why don't you do it ?

Just Dune It or should i say anja nice to have you back.

what have you done for the dunes ???

May Be i should JUST QUIT AND MOVE AWAY FROM THE DUNES!!!!!!!!!! pl.gif

Damn, after all these years, if someone is questioning Tim's actions and concern for the dunes they are really off the mark.
And I think you know it as well as everyone else. You've been around long enough.

I'm glad Tim that we all can have different oppinions and I just said mine. And ask you questions about the trash bag project. So don't give me the finger and tell me what to do.

I have done and do a lot for the dunes, I just don't run around and bragg about it.

BTW this my be interesting to you, I made GDOTM in June, because nobody else what there to help specially the store.

Now that is a slapptacious post right there, with lots of slapptacious information. What a lifesaver Just Dune It, Glamisdunes.com thanks you. A DOTM honor no doubt. Slap would love to send you your DOTM sticker, so throw over a PM to Slap with your info on it, and it'll be on the way.

Tim is probably one of the most outspoken SUPPORTERS of the dunes, and I know that our family appreciates all that he does. We are always honored to work alongside Tim whenever we get a chance to pick up trash. I talked to Russ, and we should have a bunch of invoices paying in the next week. You can count on both Accu-Dry Emergency Water removal and our soon to not be super secret other company to be sponsors, Tim. It would be an honor to help out with all the work that you do. thumb.gif

I am a sponsor on the bags, have been since they become available, and yes I put product in them when someone buys from me. It seems to me to be the best way to insure that the bag gets used and back to there camp without being discarded. I also tell everyone to put their trash in them when they leave. I also pass out as many bags as anyone wants. So I don't see any problem with it , and yes I will be a sponsor this season too.

Anja, I didn't say you never did anything good, I just don't understand why you and a few others feel the need to mess up a good topic that is asking for volunteers?

if you want to go off topic with the finances and the use of the bags, you could have sent Tim a PM rather than air this stuff in his topic.

Ya know, you did something good, and you got recognition from the best dang duning community anywhere. From the bottom of all of our hearts, "thank you". I am personally very glad you recognize and value that award. Now let me educate you a little bit. Tim Gantz..yeah "glamispilot"..has been DOTM, been Duner of the Year, as well as other prestigious volunteer awards. His credentials have been forged with not only the sweat of his brow, but with his very own dollars. He spends HOURS and HOURS every month just trying to keep the dunes clean. It seems to me that comparing "resume's" with him is going to be a losing battle in your case.

You are more than entitled to your opinion regarding the trash bags, but don't be surprised when you find you are very much in the minority. If you want to have any more discussion on this issue, I suggest you either start a new thread, or take it to PM's, as arguing over trash bags is NOT what this thread is all about.
just_dune_it
Robbie I was just wondering about the price break down like some other people did as well, and I was wondering why not more bags are handed out. $ 250 for sponsorship is cheap advertising, so why not hand out more bags.

Tim hates me for what ever reason, so what ever I say will be taken wrong. Oh well can't like and love everyone. But I'm very much involved in the dunes as well and longer than Tim has been, just more in the backround than in the spotlight.

Anja do you really think this is the place to have this discussion ?

My personal feelings have nothing to do with the trash bags.

and if you would like to step up and hand more trash bags out feel free too, i will supply you with as many bags as you think you can hand out .

WOW! These were just simple questions and you have the throw "what have you done for the dunes" and "maybe you should do it" statements in our faces.

If you can't take some simple questions from the peanut gallery then maybe you should make good on your threat and move away.

This thread was not 'messed up' with straight forward questions until the above comments were throw in our faces and the finger was tossed around.

Mike,

if I am out of line on my impression of this thread, I am sorry. Reading it however, it seemed to me that Tim was being "confronted" (for lack of a better word) on the price that he was paying for the bags, and almost as if he himself is responsible for every single bag that is out there. To my untrained eye, it seemed as if he was being told not to let vendors have the bags, that they are solely for trash purposes, that more needs to be done with them. I personally have gotten these bags at Vendors, and used them after I got my purchases back to the trailer, for picking up trash. In fact, on one of the trash pickups last year, we went to vendors, and picked up an entire box from one of the vendors to hand out, because Tim, and the entire Glamis outreach and trash pickup programs have done such a good job of getting them into the hands of the duners, that there were no bags left.

I am not directing this part at you Mike, but rather at anyone who wants to take away from the trashbag sponsorships that are available...if you don't want to sponsor, then don't. If you have a problem with how Tim is handling trash in the dunes, then take it to pm. I am begging that the message behind what Tim is asking for here not be tarnished by the opinions of the few. Please, they are OUR dunes, and they are there for EVERYONE's enjoyment. As such, it is EVERYONE's responsiblity to ensure that they are there for generations to come. All Tim is asking for is a little help in ensuring that.

Thanks to Tim for all he does, I can't even begin to list it.

Plenty of folks trying to get the same "End Result" . . . but from different perspectives.

Uhhh,
Excuse me folks,
Let me get this straight, we are having an argument over the price of trash bags, right?
I calculated a slightly different rate than the one that was originally posted, but that is beside the point.
The real point here is who has taken the initiative to fill these bags whenever they have had the opportunity?
I will tell you who, my 3 year old son, Hurly. He loves to pick up trash in the dunes, because his mother and father insist that we, as a family take away, or throw away twice as much as we come with, EVERY TRIP!
By my calculations the bags cost approximately 5.34 cents apiece, that is product, printing, and shipping.
Let's say we can put roughly 5 lbs. of Glamis trash in every bag. Here we go 5lbs. x 80,000 bags = 400,000 lbs of trash, that equates to 2000 tons of trash removed from the dunes every 3-4 years. The average trash truck can carry 11 tons, or 22,000 lbs. That equates to just over 18 trash truck loads of saved dunes for our kids, grandkids, and with the proper education, who knows how many generations.
Now if I am right, and on big weekends we have over 100,000 visitors x 5lbs. "just one bag of trash", oh my god, we are screwed by March, we NEED more 5 cent bags .......... Damn wouldn't that be nice?
Now if everyone was like a certain 3 year old, and didn't care about anything else in the world but doing what he was taught was the right thing to do, do you think this thread would ever be visible for anyone else to even think about????????
Just my 2 cents
Pipelayer

P.S. this math has nothing to do with Slappy's Adopt-A Wash program, as I have personally witnessed 20-25 truckloads of trash picked up on that sacred weekend!
Be a part of the solution, not the problem!
Slappy
YEEEHHHAAAWWWW, SLAP WANTS TO GET IN ON THIS. HEELLLL YES. A clean Mother G is a happy Mother G. The Brotherhood wants in, and Slap wants The Adopt A Wash logo on it for sure GP.

Jst Dune it, the folks voted for ya, hot darn, congrats. It is an honor to have that title of Duner of the Month.

20,000 bags a year be a lot of walking, lotta talkin, and a lotta cleanin. BUT, if that ain't enough, Slap is down with you doing a similar project like this to get more bags out. With that GDDOTM title comes lots of responsibility; directed to Mother G. Slap thinks you can do it. Another 20,000 bags from you would be DOWNRIGHT SLAPPTACIOUS.

PS...PIPE, you is one helluva calculatin mo fo, great job. You popped in just before Slap could finish posting this. Hot darn, you da man.

not that it matters in the big picture , but the bags are about .19 cents a piece . the equation would be 15,000.00 dollars divided by the 80,000 the number of bags at .1875 or round up to 19 cents . maybe i see it wrong but it seems pretty darn cheap to me . i am not trying to fight just point out the math and give my opinion , again i am not trying to fight . tim

not that it matters in the big picture , but the bags are about .19 cents a piece . the equation would be 15,000.00 dollars divided by the 80,000 the number of bags at .1875 or round up to 19 cents . maybe i see it wrong but it seems pretty darn cheap to me . i am not trying to fight just point out the math and give my opinion , again i am not trying to fight . tim
