Hot Rail Tom
I have a 2006 Hotrails Sandcar with a Honda 3.5L single port engine with pauter rods, JE pistons, RC injectors, a Motec ECU, Intercooled and turbocharged. I just freshly rebuilt the motor and am experiencing a problem with the V-TEC. It's trying to engage at idle when motor is cold, only. I've tried unplugging the V-TEC solenoid and also installed a new solenoid. When the engine warms up the problem goes away. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you,
Tom

With the solenoid unplugged does it still engage?

I have seen a few cases where the spool valve would bypass enough psi to the pressure switch to make the ECU "think" the Vtec was engaged, without actual engagement.

What does the motor do or sound like when the V-tec engages?

Are you using 5-20 oil? I believe that's what it calls for.

Kraut_n_Rice: Yeah it still does it with the solenoid unplugged. Somehow there is oil bleeding into the V-TEC system whether it's hot or cold. I replaced the entire V-TEC assembly, cover and all, without success.

Mike330r: It's not completely engaging it's just trying to due to oil bleeding in to the V-TEC system. It makes clicking noises from the pin hitting the rocker.

The_Fog: I've been using 5-30 for a while now without any problems.
