This past weekend we were about wash 6. Some people came in and camped about 100 yards from us... It wasn't crowded at all, so 300 yards away would have been more desirable for us. They weren't friendly (we tried to say HI!). The kept mostly to themselves... OK no problem. When they left I saw then around the bottom the the camper they had... then GUSH! they dumped their BLACK tank right there... angryfire.gif then jumped in the truck and sped off! It was a small camper so it couldn't have been a lot! BUT enough to make a SMELLY mess I didn't think fast enough to get a license #, but if I had... Does anyone know if that can be reported after the fact! 25toilet_claw.gif Or would this cause another "enviro-nut" problem?

Take a picture if you can... call the Ranger Station right away... Hopefully they can catch them before they disappear, and EARN that $90!!!

BTW: It's illegal to dump GREY water also... even going down the road!

The grey water thing is a bit of a stretch by me, but I guess I'll go along with it. We had some effers last season pop their black tank and then pull out THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF MY CAMP WITH THE LINE STILL OPEN!!! angryfire.gif 25brdflick.gif angryfire.gif Wish I'd have had something more destructive than beer cans (like bricks) to throw, but our whole camp was so pissed we were actually throwing full beers at the jackoff. We were gonna stay an extra day, ended up relocating camp about 1/4 mile (not easy when you're a tent camper). Some people... rolleyes.gif

I Just thought.... since they were so close, when I get my photos of the weekend developed... maybe there will be one in the of the back of that camper....

Well, next time you contemplate the grey water thing just try to imagine every camper parked at Gecko all dumping their grey water at the same time...

I agree, it can be done right... and in moderation would probably go unnoticed... but when you start talking about packing 125,000 people into a small area like Glamis, sometimes compromises have to occur...

I suggest, for grey water, that you get a dishpan that you can wash your dishes in... you can dump that in a hole, no problem.

Some "opinions" on grey water.
This topic caught my interest so I did a little research. I was looking for an actual California Law which dealt with the issue and I came up empty.
But, I found some interesting articles concerning Grey water.
Here are a few points to ponder when you're digging that hole to dump your grey water into before you head home.

Grey water is not just soap and water. It could contain bacteria, feces, chemicals (maybe), urine, contanimated meat and who knows what else. Did you wash your chicken in your sink? Do you clean thourghly when you shower? Do you add chemical fresheners? Bleach?

What would Gecko look like if 30,000 RV's all dumped their grey water on Sunday before heading home?

Human feces (I'm thinking, I'm no expert) is more dangerous then animal feces. It contains many very hazardous bacterias like E-coli.

Grey water stinks terribly when it is standing.

It is against the law to dump grey water in the ISDRA. Even if it is inadaquatly enforced, it is still the law.

I also believe that it is against the law to drain your grey water, or even fresh water while driving down the road, not to mention how inconsiderate it is to the drivers behind you. (I could not find this law. If anyone can I would appreciate it.)

Anyway, those are just a few observations I had after doing a bit of light reading on the subject while using the search terms Code:
"Grey Water" or "Gray water" and "Holding tank"

I also found that there is a movement trying to get grey water recycling for homes, for use in gardens and lawns and such.

Also, I would guess that an outdoor shower skirts by on a technicality. I'm guessing that in the eyes of the law, grey water does not become "grey water" until it gets into a holding tank.

It is how ever legal to dump fresh water while driving, and also chicken feathers.

Chicken feathers? laughing.gif laughing.gif

That is effen shiat (pardon the pun). I would have beat those effers to the ranger checkpoint on a quad/buggy and turned their asses in! 25brdflick.gif 25rant.gif

Brian, your first post says it is illegal to dump gray water. Your second one in the quote it says you couldn't find any CA law about it.

I don't know what the law is, but I do know my old motorhome was never fitted with a gray water tank at all. Kind of like old cars not having emissions equipment.

hey jwfab did you just get a class "A" license , that is the exact working from the commercial driver handbook

LOL, nah, about 6 years ago. It was just one of those things that seemed strange to me when I read it, so it stuck with me. I have alot of useless knowledge.

I do however have to renew my hazmat this year, time to refresh that handbook again.

yea i havent picked up that book in ages since i got my cdl i dont knw why but that stuck in my head , have fun with the hazmat

I don't know about California law (we had an old motorhome once without a grey tank) but prohibiting grey tank dumping was added this year to the Glamis list of don'ts.

Black tank dumping was always a no-no.

Race Face, I hope your camera did catch their license plate... would be interesting to see if the BLM could (or would) do anything about it.

Yeah... I might have left some out... the other thread is very informative...

At anyrate, how it works at the ISDRA:
True, I could not find a CA law... (and neither could the Dumont guys)... but there is CERTAINLY an ISDRA Rule that clearly states...
"Dumping of sewage and gray water is prohibited."
As for your RV with no grey water tank... I assume it runs straight out??? That is acceptable, and not illegal, just like an outdoor shower. Grey water does not become "grey water" until it hits a holding tank.

And yes, it is also true that FRESH water AND Chicken Feathers can be released while driving down the road... Go figure.

My hubby has a Class A California driver's license. I myself, have not read the handbook, but it was my understanding that "clear water and feathers from livebirds" were okay to dump on the highway. So don't be carrying around any dead birds!!!

jason, do you drive a truck?

I pulled the plug on my fresh water at the dumpsters one time and some guy pulled me over screaming and yelling at me (at the cow farm). I thought he was gonna start some shiz, but I yelled as he quickly approached my truck that is was my fresh tank.. He got a stupid look in his face, turned and walked back to his truck.

Im in the belief that you should pack out your grey also. I bought a 20 gallon reserve tank that I can fill with grey if I need to. You brought it, you should take it.
Funny but Pastor has a point - Imagine 125,000 people all dumping dishsoap that is not friendly to the environment. How about all that shampoo also.
I learned alot from my surfing and we dont use any soaps that are not enviromental freindly. Guess it helps my concience more then anything.

We once had an "out-of-state" ranger tell us that we couldn't dump fresh water on the ground either at Gordon's!!! blink.gif I asked to see the rule but he couldn't find it.. icon_biggrin.gif
