Correct. It makes ZERO sense to buy a used S4 in the 8K range when you can get the NEW S4 for 10K at any tranny shop in town.
As to your question.....I'm sure they will have parts OR when it breaks you can upgrade the internals

That's right they have a new larger gear set. The same size as the HD4S.
They are compatible with the older stuff and can be interchanged.

So what is the cost of the new Gearset going to run vs what an older s4 cost? Say if it was just bought and in the future it broke and the parts were not available then what approx $$ would the new set run ... again approx
Seems if you were in the market now for a new trans then it would be prudent to wait and buy the newer version with the new gear set?

"so mendeola will not sell the old style gears anymore ???" Correct
"i need to re gear 2nd and 3rd to run 35s so are there gears available ???" Yes
"if so how long will old gearsets be available ???" There are no more (new) old gear sets, but I can look for the ratios possibly you need in are dealers surplus.

Romans9- the S4 is a large step for such a car and only comes in a sequential style.
What will the engine be upgraded to?
If this is a next season upgrade we will be releasing the LQ456 into production @ the end of this year.
It is a mid size sequential/ H- pattern gearbox between the MD4S & S4S.
Should be great in a 2000 lb. car with 2.5 turbo Subi. or 3.0 Subi.

I will be keeping the Subi just bumping up the horsepower to 400 flywheel h.p.
I am concerned that the 2D won't be enough, but I need you thoughts. I know the 2D gets a bad rap due to its use in cars with way to much torque, weight, etc. and I would like to stay on the safe side however it may be enough.
The LQ456 sounds like a great option for you to add to your line up. What do you think the approximate price will be for one of them?

Romans9- the 2D is definitely cutting it close, however it may be enough.
How is the car driven, and who else besides your wife drives it?
Do you think with the extra ponies the driver/s will be more aggressive in driving the car?
I am guessing a 2.5 with some serious turbage?

A 2D is waaaaaaay fine for a no torke, 2.5L, 400 flywheel horsepower lightweight buggy. Save your money for things like gas for the buggy.

My $.02 I would do the mods and see what your wife thinks.
Then see if you would want to re-gear the box for her driving with this new power plant.
Has she hurt the gearbox previously in any way?

I would do the mods. / 2.5 with bigger injectors, bigger turbo, ect. gets pricey$$ run good gas also.
More then likely it will need a re-gear, but sounds like she will keep it alive.
Lets see if she needs it ,or can do with out, and save some cash.
