Ok here goes stonehenge. I parked the 70 for about 3 years and now its time to ride it again. I cleaned the carb and everything is now flowing some gas again. I bought a new elbow that goes onto the spark plug because the the other one was cracked. Now I can't seem to get spark. About after 30 pulls I only get about 2 or 3 strong sparks. The rest of the time nothing icon_confused.gif New plug, new elbow, new gas, and clean carb! need help. Anyone?
Thanks Ray

p.s. Stonehenge, Iwork at UPS, see you often...help!
Fireballsocal
I would look directly at the plug wire. Maybe you aren't connecting onto the spark plug properly with the new elbow or maybe there is a loose connection where the clip is clamped onto the end of the plug wire.
DUNE
Ck that and replace your points and condenser. Ck all your connection also...

I've got to find a pulley today so I can get to the points. angryfire.gif Then I'm hoping to find a new plug wire today. My son wants to play on his old bike for his birthday weekend this saturday icon_surprised.gif Not that I would touch it at all rolleyes.gif

Hey you 70 guys and Dallas icon_biggrin.gif, will points close after sitting for a period of time or do they close from wearing out after years of use? I've never had to deal with anything that used points.
bigbadKTM
as in my other post. would a 2 stroke bike from the early 70's have points? and if so, where do i find them?
stonehenge
Not sure about older 2 strokes, what kind of bike? And yes and no on the points closing up. If they are dirty and moisture is a factor, sure the gap can close. Most just clean and re-gap, but they are so f-n cheap for aftermarket, just go new.
TheWrenchWench
I'm sooo jazzed! Ray (Dmax) got the bike running yesterday, but has been too busy to post. Now I have something to ride this weekend since the little guy took over my quad and the rail is down. icon_biggrin.gif
