Close to Veteran's Day... it will depend on when the Flag Pole ceremony falls out in Glamis... sounds like a good event!

Sounds totally cool....

I've been thinking about it. I've done a few poker runs and fund raiser events out there and they are always a blast. As it gets closer, I'll post up

My family and I did it for the first time last year and it is a blast. There are five check points and each one has its own theme and game. Great raffle prizes, and a fun way to support the SDORC. We are going to be down there for it again...staying at the Blu-In campground.
SANDFANATIC
Our only issue with it right now is....Our group is going out for Halloween (the weekend prior) so, nobody wants to go that weekend. I don't like the idea of doing it alone. I'm trying to see if any other friends want to go before we make a final decision.

I've done it a few years. Last year they changed the layout to include some pretty cool trails in the park that I had not been on. Going this year for sure. I'm not sure where we're staying. If the pool is warm and rates are reasonable wife.gif we'll stay at the bl;ue inn rv park. If not we'll pick a road and park next to it.
SANDFANATIC
Looks like we are definitely going whether we are alone or with company. We are looking at going out Thursday night and staying until Sunday. We'll see as it gets closer though. We'll probably stay off Main street. We like the fenced in kiddy track near the ranger station for the kids to ride on.

I've been going to Ocotillo Wells for about 15 years now (or so) I've never done one of these but got a flyer for this one and one on October 16 and 17. They alway look like they would be fun. How long is the run? Is this all in the "park"? North side of the highway?
kandegurl13
Looks like fun! we just might go! Yes please more info
SANDFANATIC
I personally only know what you all know. I've never done one either. I've always had interest in doing these but, have never made an effort to plan on one. This year my wife and I made it a plan to go and do this. I've heard it's a very easy course and considering all types of offroad vehicles can do it, I'd assume it's on the north side in all the open riding area. Most likely along the main paths.
sausage450r
I'll be there with a few friends

thinking this might be a great day trip with the ranger, or if I really get daring, maybe on the fat cat motorcycle.
YAMAHASPORT
Last year it was a route on the east side of the park starting at the Blue Inn. I believe it was about fifeteen to twenty miles?? They have games of skill kenk.gif at each checkpoint. It had some cool parts of the park that I hadn't been to before. I think we're going to go out Weds. night/Thurs. morning. I hate to get everything packed up and only spend the weekend mindy.gif

My son has been building a ranger and I think him and some of his friends might like this also.

Thanks for the form. I might of missed it but it that entry fee per person? I have a 3 seater and if I have 2 passangers, does that go $15 x 3? or is that only if they all 3 of us are playing in the run. Or does it go go by per toy? (quad, truck, bike, buggy?)
SANDFANATIC
Your choice. You can just do one registry for the entire car or you can register each person or even more. It's up to you as long as you do at least one.

Thanks again for the info, we just started a job for the parks department out there so I'm going to be out there even more than ususal.
SANDFANATIC
Well...I'm all registered so, I'll definitely be there.

Trailer is loaded and can't wait to leave tomorrow night after work. rigga.gif My 2.5 year old son can't wait for desert season to start. sp666.gif

I should be heading out Thursday night. Both my kids are excited as well. Everytime I work on the MH or trailer....my son runs out the to MH and sits in it. I guess he's making sure I don't leave with out him....LOL!!!!! My daughter on the other hand understands when Thursday night is but, she's still very antsy...

I've been working out there next to the airport all week and the weather has been perfect! Not a lot of wind like the week before and the temp as been great.
SANDFANATIC
I should be getting out there tonight. I'll be a loner I think. It'll be just my kids and I for tonight. My wife comes out tomorrow evening and I'm not sure if anybody else is or not to be honest. I haven't followed up on my friends. All I know is, I'm going to be there having a good time. If you see me....stop and say hi. 31' class C with a 22' enclosed. I'll be camping off of Main st. I have a pretty much stock 03 Jeep Wrangler that will be flying the American Flag.
faster dad!!!
we Will be out there as well, we have a group of 4-5 families going. don't know where to camp, we have never been there before. from what my buddy tells me there is plenty of places to stay. I will be the firs of our group out tonight. I guess we will see. I had no idea there was a poker run this weekend, the kids and wife will have a blast.

I'm going back out this afternoon. Waiting to pick up my motor (I blew up a week ago). I know right were your staying, I saw a guy right there monday am with his front end torn apart and his wife and kids looking at him. He broke a ball joint so I took his arm and pressed the new one in for him. I'm staying off split mountain (in my toyhauler) but will be driving the yellow baja, hopefully.

I just got a message from a friend that hey are having a party/concert at the iron woods on sat night. Might be a crazy croud there, one of the bands are "kotton mouth kings".

As for where to stay if you havent been there. I dont know where your coming from but there is camping everywhere. At the west end closer to the ranger station is "main street" and a lot of people stay around there, in the middle east of the little dirt air port there is a street/road, wolf creek road, if you fallow it in there is a campground "holms camp" (I think) and there are shades, bathrooms and showers. At the east end is down by the "blue inn" and I believe that is where the poker run is being held, or accross the road from it. They have a new campground if you want to pay for hook-ups or you can camp anywhere on the north side.

FYI..............as of last week there is NO fuel of any kind (gas, diesel) at the blue inn, that might have changed, but I checked last week and they didnt.
SANDFANATIC
What a great time this was. This was our first one and we plan to do again. Great time and it was definitely a family oriented event. They made it fun for the kids as well as the adults.
SANDFANATIC
Here are some pictures from the weekend.

I had a blast also, I put a new motor in the night before so it was a great way to brake the new motor in. I think I remember seeing your wife and family (sandfanatic) at the raffle drawing. I thought they did a great job, especially with so many people there.
SANDFANATIC
I think I saw you in a wash going the opposite direction around 2pm or so. Do you have some writing on the lower part of your bug? Addictive Pain or something like that?

Ya...the raffle was busy but, they did do a good job.

Did you try the empanadas? Man....those were good.
adbrothers
I did have a big brawt. I do have that on the sides. My friend owns that tattoo shop so I put those stickers on until I repaint. We were driving around to play a little since we finished the poker run early.
stratto4
Hey sandfanatic, where about in ocotillo wells is that wash that is in your pictures? that looks like a blast!
adbrothers
I think he is at the end of split mountain. There called the wind caves. You have to be street legal to go in there, or chance it. If you go to the end of slit mountain and head to the right, straight ahead are the mines, and to the left will take you to superstition or ocotillo (not wells). I could be wrong, but I'm sure he will let you know.
SANDFANATIC
Yes....adbrothers is pretty much correct.

That is Split mountian which is actually Anza Borrego and is "street legal vehicles only" area. The wash has some awesome views. The wind caves are at the south end of the wash on the left side. You'll come out of split mountain and the wash with Y off. Right there on the left will be a sign. The caves are a 1 mile hike from there. The hike is easy....my 3 year old and 5 year old did it.

SANDFANATIC
Well...I just looked and this years Lost Lizard Run will be on Nov 13th. As of right now...I'm planning on doing it again. We had a great time last year.
