I may be in the same boat, 26ft. class A moof.gif

I need to have it done as well...32ft.
Sand-Wedgie
It's pretty expensive. Tron had his 39' class-A done and the labor was quite a bit. Substantial time removing the old stuff. I think he said it was in the six-hundred dollar range plus all the lap sealant. Don't quote me on the $$$. I just remember it was a lot. Like most things, you can do it cheaper yourself if you have the time. It's not difficult, just time consuming.

ask or hope stuegots sees this. i think he told me mine will never leak or at least for a very long time.
ElCaminoManT
my deal is that i HATE dealing with caulking or any kind of sealant. every time i use it, it turns into a huge mess. im a mechanical person so this type stuff drives me nuts. plus, i have to repack the wheel bearings and adjust the brakes on all 6 wheels before the rig goes back to G for the season.....that will be a ton of fun....
sand phene
i reccomend getting it done at k and n customs in romoland. i just had mine done. i also had them re-silicone the entire trailer (windows, doors, compartments and front and rear cap) they did an awsome job. my trailer was a 38 foot sandpiper 5th wheel
ElCaminoManT
dah, didnt even think about the windows and such, that needs to be done too. how much did that run ya? if ya dont mind posting....

Can you give us a ballpark #, based on what you paid? Doesn't need to be exact, give or take $100.
Crowbar
john, maybe the dude you bought it from can give you a good deal. It might be worth the drive?? you don't know unless you ask!

I dont know what they installed for $600. you would spend almost that in material if it was a quality elastromeric rubber urethane. That is a screaming deal.

I can get them done for around a grand at my shop, using the same products you would use on a parking structure. You can drive cars on this stuff, it is very durable.

Hows that holding up Dan? Hell I did that about 7 years ago
danno333
dang maybe i should start sealing campers, toy haulers. i dont mind it at all. it never bothers me to get picky and clean up all the old sealant before starting with new. i just always put on some good tunes and work till its too dark to see.

holding up great so far. but now the camper has a covered and shaded parking place here. so that should help things out in the future. i have a huge RV parking at the new house smile.gif should also keep the paint longer also lol.

This was for taking off all the silicon and replacing it at every seam.

Thats great, Im so glad you got a hold of the old girl. That roof has held up through 2 Glamis summers and 1 in Blythe.

Ok Sorry I thought it was for a new roof. I could not even touch that price.
ElCaminoManT
sorry, what i mean by 're-seal' is, replacing the sealant or caulking that is at the seams of the roof to the front cap, sides and around any items on the roof (a/c units, vents, etc)

thanks
BravoZulu
Removed and re-caulked the total roof WW SLC3905 during the summer break. It's true, the project is no fun working on top of a trailer roof during the hot summer days. The bright side... saved some gas money for Glamis, gain a nice tan, and enjoy some beer.gif cold ones.

I'm with El Camino....I need to do mine too, made even a little wood replacement up in the front behind the cap. I was in Havasu over the summer and my ac condensation found a crack and got some wood wet. I'm thinkin I will have to pull off the front plactic cover and do some "toycollector" work.

I just picked my trailer up from warrior lifestyles where I had this done. I've got to tell you, after looking at what they did having to craw all over the roof, scrape off all the old stuff then laydown thick beads over every screw, seam, vent etc I think it was the best $600 I've ever spent. Not to mention it's been 102-103 here for almost a week. I like to do my own maintance but this is a hot and messy job IMHO.

When is it suggested to have this done?

Just had to re-caulk the house (showers, sinks, etc) and caulk my baseboards (finally). I've found that a small bucket of water and a bunch of sponges really helps with this job. Trying to do this with your fingers only will drive you absolutely insane and make a huge mess.

Just wipe the excess off with your finger first, wash it in the water, then wipe down the rest with a sponge to smooth it out. Goes really quick that way.

i couldn't agree with you more, I 'd rather spend my time working in the garage on buggies and quads than on the roof re-sealing the joints.............

It is recommendd you should do it every 2-3 years. I went 4 years. Just get up there every trip and inspect for cracks in caulking
ElCaminoManT
dropped the trailer off at terra trailers earlier this evening, it was well due for a re-seal as the lap sealant is really starting to split apart now

So what did they quote you to re-seal the roof?
ElCaminoManT
dave is going to go over it in the AM and give me a call. they close at 5 but he was kind enough to hang around for me to drop it off after hours since my boss made me stay a tad late.
krustyone
I tried to climb up there and reseal mine, I tried for hours to scrape that crap off, it was a nightmare and I gave up after my hands started to bleed. I resealed the part I had done and climbed down. Not ever gonna try that again. There's gotta be a better way to make a roof on an rv than that rubber crap.
ElCaminoManT
picked up the trailer sat morning. Dave resealed all the seams up there and also installed some new gutter extensions for the killer price of $200. i dont know if its the price he usually charges, he may have been hookin it up since he made some $$ when he sold ye old warrior after i sold it to him a couple years ago dunno.gif either way, Dave over at Terra Truck and Trailers is a great guy that i highly recommend to anyone. everytime ive been in there, the place is packed, business doin ok over there

I have a 35' Southwind that I and a few old friends removed the original EPDM rubber roof, removed everything mounted to the roof..ac, vents, tv antennae, skylights, repaired the plywood substrate, covered the existing plywood with 1/8" luan, put down the new EPDM, re-installed what we took off (new skylights, vents and tv antennae) and caulked the whole thing.

We did this last year. It looks great, doesn't leak...

I was only 67 when we did this...my two part time helpers were kids...both only 65!!!

I do have an extensive construction background, and it sure helped.

You can do it...!!!

It did cost me a $hitload of beer and about 1000 bucks for material.

A paint brush works great also with the bucket of water. I learned this from some painters a long time ago. Works great with caulking on everything, especially stucco and brick.

Just resealed the roof of the grandparents moho, and I've done parts of my toyhauler. Really not that bad at all, but $200 is a real deal.

Had mine done last year by a guy in OC. My whole roof was removed due to it's age and splitting. I knew it was old so that was not a surprise. I think the total damage (cost) was about $2,500 for a cash deal.

How about everyone not in San Diego area set up an appointment with Terra and hire Elcamino to tow it back and forth? Saves you a grip-o-time.
ElCaminoManT
im going to have to go have a word with dave. i got up on the roof this weekend to clean it off and the re-seal he did isnt lookin very good and i can see parts where he just applied the new sealer over the old...not cool plthumbsdown.gif

That sounds EXACTLY like the instructions my prom date gave me oh-so many years ago...
