This just goes to show that if a dog gets enough attention and loves you enough, they will be loyal enough to save you...
I took my dog Wheeler People Eater (yes thats her full name we call her Wheeler) out for a run, i was a ways away from my house when this guy pulls up next to me and asks me a question and then stops and gets out of his car. He had a knife in his hand and he was coming at me... I was seriously scared, Wheeler jumped up and bit him in the arm, he started screaming a there wasa blood everywhere, and he ran back to his car and left... I was freaked out and didn't want to go home so I walked to Sand Traps house (sine we live like a block away from them) and he drove me home and drove around for 2 hours looking for the guy (also a tribute to how good of a friend Sand Trap is) my parents were out of town and I would have been kid napped and God knows what else, so thanks to Wheeler I'm still here. I love that little girl, she is 1 year old now, and I owe my life to her... she is the greatest dog ever... Needless to say she got a ton of treats that night.
Wheeler is the dark brown dog, and Reenee is the light brown dog

Good news to hear you are OK! Sounds like Wheeler didn't get cut up either.
Be careful - I always have a cell on me when I leave the house. If I have to walk around at night sometimes I even call someone. Lots of times I don't get out of class till after 9 - so I always have a friend lined up to talk to as I walk out to my car just to be safe. Course I think Wheeler is better protection than a cell it sounds like!

Glad your safe and OK.
Always file a Police Report, this guy may have a history of doing this in your neighborhood.
Just think of the next young lady he might try this on...
Your description of him and his car can possibly help save another person.

Did you get a license plate?
I wonder if you or sandtrap could just call and report 'suspicious' behavior. Fib a bit about the dog biting the guy.

I understand the concern about the dog
Consider at least saying you saw the vehicle last night acting suspiciously as you walked the dog.

Young Lady,
I must agree with some of the other members on this board, PLEASE file a police report!
Wheeler is my dog, I was visiting Wes for a few days, MY dog Wheeler is now back in Phoenix Az. with me. wink, wink.
I know it's not right to lie, but you may be able to put this perp behind bars, and save another young childs life.
Think about it!
Thanks,
Pipe

Glad this had a good outcome. You're a lucky girl. It just steams my brain that there are such dirtbags out there willing to hurt others. Be careful. I have 2 daughters and I worry about them all the time.

Should have filed a report... they would have checked local hospitals for this creep. It's too bad because these guys don't just stop because a dog bit him! Look out for others in your neighborhood... might want to also run with some mace for a while, he might come back around! Not trying to scare you --- PLEASE PREPARE YOURSELF!!!
On the other hand...

to good ole SandTrap! Good fella for sure!
There is no friendship better than a dogs!!

I would file the police report. You will probably be able to keep you dog since it was self defense. The police can probably use the information you have and check the hospitals to see if someone shows up with a dog bite or similar injury. It just may prevent this from happening in the future to someone else.
You may have to take the chance with the dog. This guy could go to the police himself and say the dog bit him unprovoked and he pulled the knife to protect himself. Go to dogbitelaw.com there is some helpful reading.
Although Civil Code section 3342 appears to impose strict liability in all instances where the victim is not a trespasser and the dog was not on duty for the military or the police, California courts have denied recovery to victims who (a) provoked the dog, (b) negligently caused the attack, or © assumed the risk of a dog attack. Burden v. Globerson (1967) 252 Cal.App.2d 468, 471.

Holy I eat poo Amber, glad your ok! I guess you named that dog right!!!!!!!!!!
I too think you should file a police report. They can get that guys DNA of the ground where his blood is, and see if it matches anything that is on file already.
Hard to belive this is the first time he's done this, so you could be doing a lot of other girls a HUGE favor!!!!!Wes comes thru again...

In my experience, if a dog bites someone, and its only the first time, all they do is quarantine him to his own yard for 7 days, until they are sure the dog does not have rabies. You definately should file a police report...he will probably do the same thing to someone else, you could save their life, just the same as your dog saved yours.

HOLY COW!!!!
Glad that your dog protected you! You are lucky he did not stab the dog and continue on with his attack.
You must file a police report!!!! There is no way this is the first time this scumbag has done this, nor will it be his last. Every minute that goes by that you do not report him, he gets a free pass from YOU to try again on another young lady. Scumbag rapists don't go "Crap I got attacked by a dog I better knock this off." They say "Crap I got bitten by a dog, from now on I will only attack women that aren't walking a dog". PLEASE PLEASE report it. I would be out cruising the hood and talking to your neighbors and warning them of this creep, especially those with daughters or women that live alone etc. I looked at several dog bite sites and they all say that you are NOT liable or will be held accountable for a dog that bites a "tresspasser" or a person who is acting unlawfully. And the burden of proof is on the bitten person to prove he was NOT. If they catch this guy, and the cops know he was bitten by your dog, they can match teeth marks etc to help put this guy in prison.
Please reconsider calling the cops, and filing a report. The lives you help save may be a friend in the area or some young girl. If my daughter came home and told me this happened, I'd be on the phone in 1 second w/911 raising hell looking for him.
Glad you got lucky and were spared any harm! Another reason that I will always have big dogs. A Yorkie can't fight off a perp.

I'm glad it all came out good on your side. Dogs are great to thier owners and will protect. It's natural instinct for them. My wife has this on her at all times.....
