Glad they only paved it that far. Could you imagine the idiots running down the road if it was paved. Leo's are all the time busting them for being on the dirt road...

its such a bust now. i remember 10 years ago being able to ride down wheeler to the range from our camp at the base with backpacks full of guns to shoot at the range. ahhh, the good old days.
gotta stay away from wheeler now totally, they pull you over so fast, i watched them give probably 15 dui's on wheeler last year in one night.
i found an old pic of the tank. SS is really cool!

Wow!!! I've never found any tanks or anything like that. I've found some old shells and such but, never any military machines.

The road is paved to the gun range and not any further. You still can not drive on wheeler road unless you are in a street legal vehicle. Also, the reason not too many people have seen the tank is because it is on the bombing range. If you get caught on the bombing range it is a huge fine. I was told about 3 years ago on a search and rescue mission, the MPs told me that if the Navy is training and they see you, they have to stop for the full day and you will get fined for being there, the cost of the pilots pay for the day, the cost of the missiles they did not shoot off, and the cost for everyone behind the comm desk. He told me it will be ATLEAST $40,000 ticket. That and having to watch for explosives is not worth going into the range...

we always went at late night. they came once and just told us to leave, they were cool about it. we would shoot mortar fireworks out of the big tank gun, it was really cool!

OK cool i dont think we get on that road then. What about the winding asphalt road that goes to the top of the mountain where the antennas are at and what not. Cement buildings, says US navy property. Is it legal to be on that road and be on top of that hill? It doesnt say no trespassing except on the fence surrounding the property. Anyone know?

Yes you can to the top of that tower,Ive had more then cold ones up there, great view on a clear day.Used to be some type of milatary radar setup.I think the road from the back side is washed out,we go up the front side in the dirt trails.
