Full Version: Wanted! Lifted Golf Cart

John.
I'm shopping for a lifted golf cart and working up a list of the 'I wants'. what I'm not sure about is...gas or electric. how do you decide which is best? we'll primarily be using it in the dirt, but there may be some sand trips as well. How long does a battery charge last? what is faster, gas or eletric? which is better for cruising through some hills? I'm on a budget too. i want to spend less than $4k for a lifted cart, 4 seater, with stereo and cool paint. Its a stretch, but I've already found a gas one that will work and its fairly new. Is there anything that I should avoid? how do I get a green sticker for it? and oh, i want to be able to put it in the back of my Dodge megacab. will a cart be able to drive up a steep ramp into a lifted truck?

and additionally...does anyone here want to sell their really cool cart for a smokin good deal?

thanks for all input!

John

I have a lifted 2001 4 seat EZ Go Electric with an aluminum rear flip bed/seat. Has headlights/turn signals/brake lights. New charger and batteries last year. The kid went to college and I'm off work. Was asking $2500 but will take $2000. Has minor paint chip, kid backed into a carport. Horn needs a new relay. Custom dash prewired for HID/Off Road Front lights and rears if needed. Send me an email and I'll shoot you some pics. Never been off road, used mostly on pavement in private community.

I'll throw in the ramps for your truck as well!

If you are off roading, you want gas.

I have a Ezgo lifted golf cart for sale. It has new a-arms, 4 seater that folds over into a cargo bed, CD player w/4 speakers, navy blue paint, etc. This cart is very clean and runs perfect. Pictures were taken with a camera phone and don't do it justice. I am asking 4K but make me an offer. 714-350-3510 Ken

PS- It fits in the back of my GMC longbed with the tailgate shut. Comes with aluminum ramps.

Ken, is this cart gas? what year is it? nice looking cart. I'm in NorCal, but will be down in Corona for Thanksgiving week to go camping with my future in laws. I might be able to look at it then...or possibly sooner. where in SoCal are you?

very nice looking cart. I think you might be a little too far of a drive though. more than I'm really thinking i want to make. I think I saw this cart on performanceboats.com or riverdaves.com. did I?

If it was me, I would scratch paint off the "want" list. Who cares!? A stereo can always be put in for cheap if it's missing. Definitely want gas.
I'd look for solid suspension and maybe a nice light setup. Lights make all the difference when the sun goes down.

Couple nice carts above.

so what should I look for in a suspension? I think I have settled on wanting a gas cart.
John.
how important is it to get a cart that already has the green sticker registration? is it difficult to get it done at dmv?

Sorry, it's a 2002 and has a 9hp gas engine. It has a new low end clutch that works great in the sand and climbs hills very well without sacrificing much on the top end. I'm in Yorba Linda which is right by Corona. Let me know if this works for you and if you want better pictures.

Before I picked up my cart, I drove a friends really nice 4 seater that had the stock 9hp as well as long travel front end on the beach down in Mexico. I wasn't impressed at all. I eventually found a nice 4 seater with a 24hp Honda and it made a huge difference. Not a whole lot more top speed but definitely a lot more pulling power on the hills. I upgraded the low budget front end lift to long travel A-Arm and that really made the ride a lot nicer as well. Just a few things I've learned about golf carts. Hope it helps! 25cheers.gif

I've seen several horrible accidents from golf carts with the bigger 24hp motor. Let's face it, a golf cart isn't exactly built for that much power. If you want that kind of power, get a rhino. If you're looking to cruise around, the golf cart is the way to go for sure. That's just my .02

whereas 24hp would be cool and I do certainly like going fast...I'm trying to be a more family man now and sticking with stock turn key motor packages. :-) 9hp will be fine for us. or even the 11hp or 15hp. but I don't need to injure myself or someone else with a cart that will do 40mph+. We want something that looks cool and cruises around well on the dirt and sand.

I bet more people have been hurt in Rhino accidents than golf carts. Like anything you have to use your brain when you drive. I have a 24hp and it is maybe 20% faster than it was stock but I can climb anything. When it was stock it had no torque had to take a running start to climb anything. If you go up a hill it would just lag and now it doesn't really even change speed. I can go up to an 8" curb hit the gas and go right up try that in a stock cart. I think anything can be dangerous if you are careless.

My cart is nowhere near a rhino nor did I intend it to be. And I'm the same way as far as being a family guy and not looking to go fast. My cart is for getting my family up and down the beach as well as getting around the dunes. What I like about the 24hp is the added torque. My friends cart with the stock 9hp was an absolute dog in soft sand with 2 adults. The 24hp will get my cart through the soft stuff with 4 adults and still maintain a comfortable speed. And having tunes along the way is a big plus! And even if you go with the stock motor, I'd recommend an A-Arm front end. It really smooths out the ride.
Good Luck in your search!
John.

i've added the a-arm to my list of "i wants". actually, the blue cart halfway up the page is pretty much what we want and we'll most likely get it if its still available Thanksgiving week when we're in the neighborhood. The only thing its really missing is the roll cage and top.
John.
well, a golf cart is on the back burner for a few months now. the tread on one of my truck tires started lifting, so I replaced all 4 today and that was $2k hit. my golf cart budget has significantly reduced for a few months and then I'll be back into shopping. any more do's and don't would be greatly appreciated!
impulsive
I also have a cart that is available. I can load some pictures tomorrow. My 2005 Ez-Go has a gas 11hp engine, seats four, small lift with large off road tires, stereo, 2500lb winch, and top. It is currently registered as street legal in CA. You can see pictures on my website impulsiveracing.com under photos of support vehicles. I am asking $5500.

I have run this gas cart all over pismo in sand, and the truckhaven hills up many dirt hills, with no problems. I am always impressed as the torque converter tightens on the belt and pulls hard up the steepest incline.

sounds like your in a holding pattern for now...but when your ready for a cart ,i also have one for sale that is turn key and already registered w/a plate(pain in the (_|_) to get).
its listed in the golf cart section.
