Yeah it's been a while and for some reason I can't find my manual. Got to do a full oil change on my son's z400 this weekend and I just cannot remember how much oil it takes.. Filter is already handled.

I would call the dealer to verify with your year; it may vary by year

Why do they do that why not just make it 2 quarts. TRX is like .75 quart per side Banshee is 1.5 they never make it an even ###

There's a sticker on the oil tank... 2000 ml (2.1 US quarts).
Here's the relevant page from the service manual...

Thank you bunches.. and now that you say it I seem to vaguely recall the info being on the tank... Just been a while since I changed his oil.. (he's done it the last few times but that was last season - time to get it ready for him for this season)

Well since the bike is at home, and I'm at work that's debatable.. And it's easier to get the oil on the way home instead of having to backtrack across town tomorrow.. Plus if I don't know how much to buy and have then I may not even get around to the oil change and be further behind my own schedule

My girlfriend has a z400. I went by the book when I changed her oil and filter. The book say 2100ml but when I checked the oil level after adding, it didn't register on the dipstick. I had to put in 2500ml in. Just one thing I had to deal with while changing the oil. Thought you might want to know.

I have a question, when adding the oil and using the line on the dip stick for measurement, am I supposed measure it up to the line, and thats it, or am i supposed to start the quad, and then add up to the line?

I have been told to add the appropriate amount of oil, then run the bike for about a 30 seconds, shut the bike off and then check the level....
**edited to add the crutial fact that ehall added

Definitely shut the bike off. Otherwise you'll shoot oil all over the front of the quad, the floor, you... don't ask me how I know this

buy 3 quarts. If you run it real good first and get all the sludge out I used to put about 2 1/4 quarts in it.
