So far away? Sure, Dumont is closer for you but Glamis isn't that far away from Hesperia. Now if you were talking about the Oregon dunes or St. Anthony in Idaho, I would consider that far away.

All about the mighty dollar for the Gubment....fines for OHV use on roads and DUI arrests for those that drive over in their trucks.

I was out there for Halloween weekend. Sat at Old's with my group/family and decided to take a ride to Boardmanville...some would ride the dunes and some would ride to camp, drop off chairs and grab money for beer. I was driving our 2008 Ranger, went over railroad tracks and began heading down Kipton Road when I saw a Ranger sitting there on road....I quickly turned around and went up on the side where tracks are made with quads and such. As I headed towards the Ranger, he turned on his lights and when I got close he yelled at me to stop and come down on road. I thought NOOOOO, I am NOT going to get on that road for a ticket so I sat up top. He came to me and asked for my drivers license and registration. I didn't have my license on me but gave him all the info. He wrote me a ticket.....he said he gave me a break cause that fine is normally $1500.00 for California but he wrote it as federal so it would not be points on my license and ONLY cost me $125.00. Wow...that guy was a jerk!!! Can only get to Boardmanville by vehicle on road, any other way will get you a ticket.

BEWARE!!!!

What was the ticket for?
did he write a vehicle code violation number?
Glamis Girl 777
What if im riding my quad, but i dont touch ted kipf road? Is it illegal to ride at all on that side of the tracks?

If im in a street legal vehicle, I have to stay on ted kipf road...where can I turn to get to boardmanville and still be legal?
mellen_mpz
So what is the real reasoning behind this? Was there an accident on Ted Kipf with an OHV or something or is the state just lining their pockets as usual?? Seems they are going wayyyy out of their way to shut that place down.
xXQuickSandXx
I'm sure years of accidents played a big part in this...
ONE-A-DAY
So is crossing the tracks at the 78 in an OHV not tolerated anymore? Its not legal, but like many other aspects of the Wash road saga, has been tolerated for many many years. We like to camp over in the pit (diagonal across tracks from the store) from time to time for a change, but you do have to drive your buggy on the 78 for about 30 feet to cross the tracks.

Ticket says: Offense Charged 43CFR 8341.1 (6)
Place: Ted Kipt Rd.
Offense Description: ORV off designated Route

Ticket amount: $100.00 ($25.00 of that is a processing fee)

The Ranger told me that is is illegal to cross the tracks anywhere, and all sides of Kipt Rd is a non designated, no riding zone, therefore cannot ride. He said the ONLY way to the bar legally is by a motor vehicle. You can still use the roads to get there.

I dont see a subsection (6)
But it sounds like he cited you for being on the road.
That area "off the road" is open for use, and there are plenty of trails.

i stayed across the tracks caddy corner to the store, i believe its called jack (_|_) landing or somthing on halloween weekend... but i crossed twice in my rail with rangers setting next to the tracks they just smiled and waved... no ticket

I did go back to camp, grab the truck and went to Boardmanville to let them and everyone there know what just happened. The owner told me that she was hiring a lawyer to fight this as she has tried to get the County and State to allow a duo road so that everyone can get to bar no matter what they drive or ride. In the meantime, she is losing business. I really wish there was a way to help her raise the money for this attorney....anyone care to help? I was thinking of maybe a fundraiser one of these days at her bar...maybe a band will donate their time, maybe a drawing for prizes that could be donated.

Honestly, I am a girl that loves to help others and in return, we the duner"s get the prize...BOARDMANVILLE!

so where are the roads that are signed "open"?
charred1
So the second sign says NO OHV's ALLOWED ON ROAD EXCEPT TO CROSS. If all OHV activity is illegal on the east side of the tracks, as the Rangers are indicating, then way would they even need that sign put up. Shouldn't it read No OHV allowed, Closed area.

If somebody could get the "Open Route" issue clarified or the "Open/Existing Trials" on that side clarified....that would be fantastic.

Ok, I understand we can't go around the tracks and can get a fine for going on the highway, but we're allowed to cross the highway? Doesn't make any sense.

So for my small brain clarification. If we camp at the gravel pit diagonally across from the store....Can we cross the RR tracks at or on the asphalt road to get to the dunes without a ticket?

Does anyone have a picture of the RR Crossing at the 78?

You may want to get your story straight.

Your first post said:

Which sounds to me like you know you weren't allowed on Ted Kipf and only got off of it when you saw the range (which as it turns out was too late.)

So were you on the road like you said in your first post, or were you not on the road like you're claiming now?

I was on the little ramp part that runs parallel with the 78...coming down towards Kipt Road....at that point we noticed Ranger sitting there and turned on to trails that run parallel to Kipt Rd.....

SORRY if I was alittle off and twisted words....I am a blonde and sometimes we just can't get our facts straight, however...I am NOT a fibber, nor a storyteller, lol. My family sits here now and reminds me how it all exactly came down...I was mad and still am, so I would say anything. HA HA

Also, I had no idea that I couldn't ride on the Road, but when seeing a Ranger, my passenger warned me and told me that he didn't think I could legally drive Ranger on road, new law.

From what I was told....NO OHV's can drive on any county or state maintained road, crossing hwy or railroad tracks unless otherwise posted.

So, you are telling me that the maps that BLM have, are not correct and people should not pay attention to maps created by BLM, the same ones that regulate our dunes. But whether there is NO sign, automatically know that is off limits? I don't get it

BLM can't decide which rules and regulations they want in effect at any certain times. At the river, in Parker on the California side, you cannot ride/drive any OHV on BLM land. Not even on BLM leased land in which a resort leases and manages. The Rangers patrol all BLM land and resorts. They claim that BLM land office is located in Lake Havasu in Arizona. You can ride them in Arizona.

Anyone want to explain?

Also, I just want to know how they can issue a ticket when there are no apparent signs that state that land is closed for OHV's, on trails.
realbadlarry
In Parker the "resorts" are "managed" by the BLM, they specified no OHV activity at all within the "managed" lands. We have to tow out and in now...sucks...but people keep voting these idiots in....so it is what it is...

Where's Mr. Hamada's question and answer board...he should know where th limited use area starts...
