Whats the deal with this, Its clearly posted yet they choose not to enforce it. Some of these slid outs are actually over the road. Anyone know why the rangers do not enforce this, Then if your busted for doing something else can you use this as an argument that they pick and choose what they wish to enforce?

I can't imagine having a slide out over the road... I'd be too worried about a drunk person driving down Gecko while I'm asleep and BLAMMO!

depends, what did you get busted for.......

Did not get busted for anything, Im just curious as to why they dont enforce it.

Amazing, I could not sleep worrying about getting hit. I have seen that too on occasion. Seen one guy do it regularly just past the dumpsters on gecko. Doesn't look like he's worried. Good question, guess it's selective ticketing, too busy looking for an even more unsafe thing like a tailight at the drags.

I have been @ Gecko & the ranger stopped in our camp because someones vehicle was on the white line, just told him to move off the line......
lantz
seems like this one is self-enforced. If your slide out gets hit it is not covered because you are too close. If you hit a slide out then?
Doubleduty
My buddy and I got hit up as we were 6 feet from the line. Ranger told us to move in more and he would come back to check. We moved in to 9 feet, he knocked on the camp next to us, they were'nt there and were right on the line. He never came back the rest of the weekend FWIW. I agree though, that one's for our own safety as there were some guys doing 60 plus mph on the road at night by the loop.

Why isn't the “ten foot” rule being enforced on Gecko Rd. and is there a “ten foot” rule on the road into the Key Hole campground at Buttercup?

It is true that the enforcement of the “No parking within ten feet of Gecko Road” rule (43 CFR 8365.1-6) has been difficult, especially on holidays. It is usually the result of the law enforcement staff working on higher enforcement priorities. There is no ten foot rule in the Key Hole, Gecko loop, Roadrunner, or Buttercup camping areas.

They state the lack of enforcement is due to other "Higher Priorities".

Sounds like bs.gif to me.

If they can send LEO staff from camp to camp checking on Passes and Registration, they could easily also tell campers to move their rigs 10ft off the road.

This would be a great revenue generator all they need is a ticket book and a tape measure. Start at one end and go to the other 9'11" or less = ticket. The real reason they don't do it is can you imajine the cluster phuque that would happen as all the people started trying to move there rigs over.....It would be so bad even FHJ would move to the wash's

Does it really matter? Who are we to question authority and what is and isn't enforced... icon_biggrin.gif

You camp a the Compound, what do you care?

Wow.

Ok. Here we are all bitching about the amount of law enforcement out there and bitching about how much we have to pay in fees.

I put this one right up there with having enough LEO”s to respond to a noise complaint at 11:00 PM in Wash 22. If they have that much man power, then they have TOO MANY. I agree with the BLM/ICSO. They SHOULD have higher priorities then this one. When they don't, WE will be very unhappy.

Do you folks really, REALLY want enough law out there to enforce this one?
I sure as hell don’t. We bitch, bitch, bitch about bogus tickets, and picking on ‘the good guys’, but you want them out there with a tape measure and a ticket book? These will be the same badge heavy dudes waiting for one beer can to hit the sand next to the campfire at midnight to write a littering ticket that you all complain about.

Be vewy, vewy, Vewy, VEWY caweful what you ask for. You just might get it. Along with the increased fees to pay for it. Remember, the ticket fines do NOT go back to the ISDRA and are NOT used to pay for the LEO’s out there. But they ARE used to justify the how many LEO’s are needed.

My personal take is…anybody dumb enough to park that close to road get’s what happens to them. Slide extended over the road? WHACK.

Bet they don’t do it a second time.

If they wanted to keep everyone 10' off the road all it would take is a big sign at the entrance or a min. wage employee telling everyone when they come in that it would be ticketed. Just goes to show that they really dont care about safety anymore, its about $$$$. They would rather be out giving BS tickets for "higher enforcement priorities".

I agree. I typically back my trailer in at a right angle until even my truck is off the road. I still hear guys flying by on gecko and wonder if I'm gonna get hit. I cant imagine having my slide out over the white line like I see all the time. Idiots!

I would think it would be a safety concern, wait til someone or someones kid happen to hit one of those slides hanging out, gets hurt or worse, and see how much people start screaming. Everyone talks about safety, but it seams that it should only apply to others.

Next these guys are going to cry about how much TP people use in the restrooms. I mean afterall it could cause an accident with no TP being available to us, we should get the ticket book out.

Missing or broken flags, riding with no helmets, riding double, children riding unsupervised and/or without certification, driving around the RR crossing gates….did I miss any?

These are all ‘safety’ issues. Can’t disagree. And some of them affect other people.

The person with their slide/rig parked inside the 10’ line deserves to pay/get bankrupt for any accidents and injuries their stuff causes. I take responsibility for my screw ups. It irks me that I have to pay increased taxes (re—parking fees) to have law enforcement go after people who don’t.

If I’m going to have to pay to keep people 10’ from the line, I’d rather give the money to the BLM, have them buy a bulldozer with a blade that extends 10’ on either side of the road and have them drive it, randomly, down the road twice a day.

Bet they’d only have to do it once before everyone was well clear of the 10’ line.
