Last year we were going to camp at Ogilby Rd. for Thanksgiving, One of the families we camped with got there first, and he said he could not find a place to camp that was closer then a 1.5 miles to the dunes, so we camped at Buttercup. We have some younger kids and want a place where they they can ride. Last year I road from Glamis to Ogilby then to Gordons test hill. It seems like I remember riding through some small dunes next to the 8Hwy on the way to test hill My question is can you camp some where close to dunes. We don't mind having to travel a little bit to the dunes. So is there any place to camp, some where closer to the dunes then 1.5 miles . I have heard good thing about Ogilby at thanksgiving and that all the people making noise go some where else.

Thanks Lardog

We camp there for Tday. It's crazy! Pole dancers, flat billers, and LEO's everywhere!

There is a large area similar to the washes that is right next to the dunes, however these dunes are pretty small and good for kids and or quads. It's a 3 or so mile ride through these to the big stuff near Patton Valley.

We camped there Prez. Weekend 2006 and had a great time. I don't remember it being that fare from the dunes. In fact we camped only about 100 yards or so from the smaller razorbacks. You can camp at a lot of different spots. It's a pretty big area. You can camp closer to I8 or further north closer to the train tracks. Camping closer to I8 gives quicker access to test hiil while camping further north gets you closer to Patton Valley. Ogulby tends to be a lot more quite and safer for the kids.

We just camped at buttercup during Halloween and everyone was getting hasseled by the LEO's. I made the decition to camp at ogulby for Thanksgiving. We will be with a large group of families.
Been there dune that
ogilby Rocks,

The small dunes are fun and th ekids love em. We'll pull up on top of one and just watch the kids ride. I've had some great times there. Stay North of the 1st road in (Soft close to the 8).

Some of the best sunsets around. Watch out for the pole dancers!

Our group normally camps at Gordons Well, but a couple times a year we will camp just off of Ogilby road by the radio tower. Get off the I-8 on Ogilby and take the first dirt road on your left. You can take that road all the way back to the Ogibly camp area or just stay close to the tower. Either way there is a lot of small to medium size dunes for the kids. For the adults and older kids its only a 5 - 10 minute ride to the large dunes and then just a little ways farther to test hill. We love the dunes on the east side because they are always smooth with little to no tracks on them. Our group has a lot of kids and we have spent many of good times just duning in the 'baby' dunes with them.
