What's the difference in using 8" diameter wheels and using 9" or 10" diameter wheels? I would thing the smaller diameter would have more cush. I know a narrower wheel will push the side walls out more but not sure what diameter affects.

I have a set of ITP 8" diameter wheels and I think 10"s. One set for raptor 700 and one for YFZ450.

for close to stock bikes or even mildly modded ones, it's hard to argue the benefits against each other for a 8-10" rim. especially with the endless tire/wheel combos out there. the tire can make or break you a lot more than the diameter of the rim.

i personally like the feel of a 8" rim.

10" rims to me were always more for looks without sacrificing much performance.

some hillshooting guys like to run the skinnier and small diameter rims because the tire actually grows when they hit high speeds allowing for more top end at the top of the hill while keeping optimum gearing at the bottom for take off. these guys are making over a 100 HP though. for 45+ HP, you wont see much of a difference.

The lower profile of the 10" wheel rides rougher but also handles differently than the 8" Less sidewall to absorb the bumps or to flex in the turns. The 10" can be ran with slightly lower air pressure without rolling off of the bead also.

I have a lightly modded 50 rwhp 07 YFZ450. I was given a set of factory Raptor wheels w/bald stock tires I planned on putting paddles onto. I plan to use the bike for duning so I want turnability. Whats the best bang for the buck paddles I should go with to fit these stock rims? Are the GBC's as good as the ITPs?

8" for motocross, 9" rear for off-road. 10" rear for duning. you can use what ever you like. I run a 10" rear douglas beacause the rim is much lighter then the rubber of the tire. I have scat trac haulers that are buffed. VERY light combo. when you run an 8 you have alot more rubber (heavier) thats for sand. you have paddles, you dont need more traction.
for mx the 8" with 18'' tall tire gives you alot of acceleration and traction but low top speed. for the desert at least a 20" tall tire with 9" enough sidewall to flew on big hits but too much rubber sidewall flex will make it tough to take high speed corners. also keeps the weight down with the wheel. pick and choose whatever ya like. but if your just going to dune, lighter is better and you can use a softer alumiun wheel where as off road you want a strong wheel.

I've had both of those and the GBC sharks had a wider footprint and hooked up better without that stupid little extra paddle ITP put's on theirs. Personally they both suck though!! Plenty of used Skat Trak tires you can pick up of numerous forums for the same price as those tires. You spent all that money getting your bike more power but why hold it back with crappy paddles. SkateI's and edge's are nice if you are concerned about turning. Turning isn't an issue as long as you stick with under a 66 rollout paddle!



I hear ya about cheap'n out but I only make it to Glamis about 2-3 times a year and usually do hardpack at Ocotillo, so dropping 5 bills on tires and wheels that will hang in the garage primarily doesn't make sense right now. I'm gonna run rears only so if I can get a couple good paddles mounted on these rear wheels for $175-$200 I am happy.

that price can be had on a good slightly used set just keep your eye out.

i'd argue against the comment about the alluminum being lighter than the rubber. i guess it depends on the tire though. i remember weighing a few back in the day and the 8 inch was lightest. again, it depends on the tire selection.

Chaparral hat the ITPs mounted and ready to go for $180+ tax on a cast wheel set up and $230 for the ITP polished aluminum wheel. Tires alone are $75 each

I ordered the Kenda Dune Runner fronts in 22x8x10's on Douglas BL's. Any input on these and how they work?
