I lead 80% of the time, can go anywere you want day or night. sometimes to fast for some of the group. but the rear can be a lot off fun also. when outfront always have a smooth ride, and keep everyone togeather.

I only started all this back in 2004. Probably the least amount of time of any players in my camping circle of friends. We do Glamis 6 to 8 times a year during the season and go for 4 or 5 days at a time.
Gary is the alpha dog in our core group of Quad Riders. He is crazy good, fearless and always knows where he's at. He has been leading us around Glamis all these years until this year. Ive always been happy to have him lead because my riding skills were always below his but improving.
Now there is a rift developing that he has purchased a Rhino a couple years ago. Its all dressed up now and somewhat fast. Another bro in our group got one and another bought a 1000cc Prowler. About 5 of us core guys left with quads and we dont much like riding around with the Rhinos and such.
I have been elevated to lead Quad Rider now only because I have managed to learn my way around all of Glamis and have a built in GPS my Cabesa. (he points-->>>its that way men. Onward!) I like leading because, lets be honest, its a boost to my ego lol. I find it more of a job because its not just where YOU can ride... its where your friends behind you can ride. There isnt anything out there anymore that I cant conquer with style but my palz arent all that way. Nothing hurts more than to have a friend get hurt out there and wreck their ride. Puts a bummer on the trip. We had someone helicoptered out a few years back with a fractured hip and assorted miseries. Leading is Fun but a Responsibility.
I joined the forums today because I think its time to get a Sand Car and I want to learn a bit before I do.

I love to lead, just get thrown off if there is a newbie in the group that I worry about. But with experienced riders I can generally just gas it and wait for the next large bowl to check on them.
what hurts?

I can lead smooth and fast in the day. In the dark I am blind. Not to

but by how chopped the dunes are I know this pole is off. There are not a lot of people that do not know the dunes have a pattern. You can tell by the up and over gouges n the face of a bowl. Just saying.

Just because they go up and over doesn't mean that they aren't in the front.
Only means that they are headed to the hill.

I finally got to be a follower this last week and it was completely different not have to pick the next line. I got to sit in the back and play, jump a few transitions and relax.

I was wondering the samething... I thing there are levels of leading that some people may not realize..It is very easy to lead a slow moving cruise through the dunes that you see a lot of people do. it is a whole other ball game to lead a smooth high speed run through them though.

I thought thats what the road was for. I always read about people going 85 mph through the whoops.

What's the pattern?? I've always sat and studied dunes and never quite see the pattern....

The dunes run in valleys. If you look at them there is a long winding back bone at the top of each spine. If you run on both sides of the back bone and transition you can mirror the spine down the valley.
