Hey everyone... my girlfriend has a Z400 quad and after a ride in G last weekend it became obvious she needs new rezzie shocks as her Z400 has the old pogo stick spring type, also I'd like to get her a stabilizer. I run the CCP CNC puck style adjustable billet stabilizer and love it on my YFZ. My plan is to replace her shocks with either the 450R/LTR/or newer LTZ take offs. These are readily available for around $150-$200 (all are popular swap outs for the older Z400). Which would be the better upgrade first for her? I would like to grab her both but its torn apart right now for a full clutch that just set me back $400 so I don't want to drop the coin for both shocks and the stabilizer right now, but we have another trip to G on the 4th.

I would always choose the shocks first, as long as they are easy to install, it would make the biggest difference.

Shocks are where I am leaning. Have a set ready to ship from the seller that are brand new LTR450 take offs that will bolt up to the Z400. They are slightly longer but I hear good things about them as a replacement.

the updated rezi shocks should make a difference. a stabilizer would be nice too. play with your air in the tires. make sure the alignment isnt' out of wack. also try clocking the paddles. that can make the quad handle ill or shake badly in softer stuff.

^Pay attention to this post. These things seem like simple little stuff but make a huge difference.
Great post GWTT.

I would go with the shocks as well.

go with some Elka dune series shocks front and rear, and some wider front a arms. My old zilla rides like a caddy now with those on it, made a new bike out of it. If it's for her bike, she can foot the bill!!!!!!

Thanx for the feedback... all points taken. I did clock the paddles when I mounted them and it rides straight. Really no complaints other than the poor stock front suspension and after seeing the difference my stabilizer made she wants one too.

Shocks over the stabilizer because you need to smooth out the ride.
I see Works Shocks on ebay all day long for bout $200 $300.

Funny, I think I would lean towards the stabilizer more for her. But guess it depnds on the riding style. Most woman I see like to cruise, and on weekends when it is rutted out and the front wheels are jarring the handlebars back and forth, that just makes for a crappy ride, especially for a woman. So I think I would lean toward the steering stab more, but definately agree on the need for both.

Ya she's getting both. She won't have them both for this weekends trip but will for the Xmas trip. She rides fairly aggressive surprisingly. I account that to she has never had a good wreck to put her in check. But the chop surely sucks without a stabilizer on a quad.

Both make a huge difference and solve different problems.

Update, the TRX450R shocks work awesome on her Z400... but it appears she thought that shocks made her invincible and within an hour of setting up camp she appears to have either a very bad sprain in her wrist or a fracture from a jump she went a little heavy on. She goes in for X-rays in the morning. We just got back in from G about an hour ago. She was a trooper and sat back in her chair hopped up on Ibuprofen and Crown Royal since Friday and let the rest of us have our fun.

Best wishes to her. I hope it is only a sprain and she heals up quick.

Thanks! She's being real good about it so far but her hand looks like a puffer fish and I am waiting for her to get here gears going today so I can take her in. Also thanks so much for the shocks. They make a huge difference and I saw no leaks at the seals. Bolted right in.

You're welcome. Glad they worked out. I wasn't expecting any leaks at all or I wouldn't have offered em but wanted you to have piece of mind, just in case. I had never taken them out of the box after all.

Well bad luck... after going to urgent care and then St. Josephs it looks like she broke her wrist in 3 spots and needs surgery. Estimating $10-$12K to screw it all back together.. OUCH!....
