So we pull in to the washes (3) early Wed morning and find a nice spot to make our camp. First step out of the Moho I look down and see this half-assed covered fire pit, still warm by the way, with all kinds of nasty tire hater stuff in it. I go through it and find about 20-30 pallet nails and a bunch of glass. It made me think, do these people ride in or on ANYTHING that could get a flat or just sit around a fire like a bunch of mindless lazy Neanderthal F-tards admiring their mental comprehension ages of less than that of a 3 year old. There were small kids in our camp that could have gotten hurt not to mention the nice nail I got in my front tire. I know it’s not the fellow GD.com members out there doing BONE HEAD stuff like this so to the others…… COME ON people, where’s your brain??? wife.gif

Just FYI, look over your camp area for the droppings of an idiot as to not get hurt or a flat. Also spread the word about burning pallets. I know you’re not supposed but those that do…….Clean the nails out of the pit when you’re done.

I’m off my soapbox now.

clap.gif for taking the time to pick through that mess, its a sad time when we see this kind of stuff lying around waiting to ruin some ones weekend...

I remember just a few years ago, when I and a handful of others mentioned that burning pallets was just asking for tons of trouble with all of the nails, there were a lot of people who defended it, and other stupid activities, like standing next to a speeding train at night while drunk, roping off 20 acres for 2 rigs, etc.

Now it seems that a lot more people, if not the majority, have started to get the message. They're starting to realize that the $500 moho tire they save could be their own, or their kids might like to grow up with a daddy who didn't get whacked in the head by debris hanging off a speeding train.

Next step? Convincing people that leaving their rig parked there for 3 months straight is an arsehole thing to do. It'll take a couple more yrs, and maybe some towed rigs.

Keep up the good fight my man.

Oddly enough I still know people that are burning pallets... we don't talk much because our conversations always end in arguing over this matter! I carry a large magnet with me and wrap it in a towel and rub it around camp picking up anything that will stick to it.
happy holidays
thats bs. thanks for cleaning up after them. some people just dont have the respect for the dunes and other duners that we have.

good job red baron. it always makes me sick when i start to set up camp and have to spend an hour cleaning up someone else's trash. we always leave our camp clean. the way it should be.

We were burning cut-up pallets in a washtub this weekend.

Its the only way to burn them without making a huge mess. Just gotta make sure to TRASH the contents of the washtub at the end of the weekend rather than dumping it into the sand.

Harbor freight sells a pretty large magnet on a telescoping stick. It's only about 4 or $5.

I always manage to get aged oak, eucalyptus or lumber without nails for free off of Craigslist or fellow board members.

Madcow sells a full truckload of euc. (load it yourself) for $40 IIRC. That thin pine stuff they make pallets out of burns up in no time at all.

I love how idiots think that glass bottle they throw into a fire pit will simply just melt away with nothing left behind....."can't fix stupid"!

And it still amazes me how many azzhats will ride thru camps at 3am as fast as they can without any regard to people sleeping etc. I mean get a life and ride in the dunes what are you trying to prove riding by camps in 3rd gear?

It was still a great weekend in the dunes!!!!!!! tongue.gif

I use a magnet from an old blown kicker sub-woofer. The thing is strong and big. Round, about 3 inches think. I wrap it in a towel or an old shirt and just bounce it off the ground as I walk. I've wanted to set it up with an axle and wheels so it was about .5 an inch off the ground but it would be a pain to remove all the pieces. With the towel or shirt, all I have to do is turn it inside out and separate it from the magnet and all the crap I picked up is contained. Works well!

We had a lot of good firewood... someone else brought some cut up pallets... either way it worked out just fine.

I don't bother with firewood though... smudgie.gif But I might just get that 100 dollars of wood trucked to camp for new years.

Thanks for picking up some idiots mess.

we did that on pad 3 after dropping a single nail. Within 3 feet we picked up half a dozen nails, none of which were the one we dropped!!!

Or the Rail guys that show up at 3am and decide to tune their V8!!!

Pallets have got to be the biggest waste of time. Even if you cut them up it's still thin pine. Not cut up, they make for about 30 minutes of burntime for an entire truckload.

Years ago Ifly came up putting magnets on tines of a heavy rake... I still have mine and have given my son the assignment countless times to "help" clean our camp by picking up many nails and other metal debris. I'll try to find a picture of it...

I always use a wash tub, and never burn pallets.

BUT... I got my fair share if idiots.

How is it when I go to dump my tub, its friggin full of trash, glass and other hardware?

I only put wood in, but apparently when folks walk by, they think its a flaming trash can.

Sure, I dont mind you dropping your paper plates in, but the plastic table ware and cups BELONG IN THE TRASH A-HOLE.

I envy the folks that camp in my spot after I leave.... thumb.gif

I pack it out, dispose of at work dumpster, or if the dumpsters are empty on my way out of the washes...

In So. OC, there's a firewood place at Lion Country (Raging Rivers). $25 for a weekend worth of decent fire wood.

Thats why i quit camping there a few years ago or right when the rhinos came out i saw it coming when only a few were doing it.Add in the east la crowd that race their nice looking banshees up and down and never into the dunes, the neighbor real close that plays their music on volume 10 til 4am some serious metal too, next morning i was up at 6 am and decide to give them some old country and they didnt like it my response was you kept my family up now its my turn to wake you up.Then add the caution tape where you cant even drive to the dunes or back to camp with out "accidently"drive into anothers camp where in some cases they flip out. we were anywhere from 13-17

F all that we now camp aways from people.
