As a Parent of a solider I have no words to express my disdain for people like this;

As if anyone is supposed to be jumping for joy at the prospect of sending 30k more troops???

Romans, I didnt see the whole interview, just the snippet you posted, but what I think by "enemy camp" he is talking about a faction of America that is generally not warm and fuzzy to Democrats. Think Bush going to the NAACP or AFL-CIO headquarters to announce some major initiative. He would be met with skepticism. Had Bush gone to West Point to announce the troop increase, he would have had a standing ovation. Although enemy camp is a strong word when considering these men and women have sworn to obey the Commander in Chief.

I agree. I'm no Matthews fan, but I think your title takes his comment out of context. ( although he probably really thinks that)

He said Obama was in "an enemy camp". Exactly how is that taken out of context? It's nice to see we can't label someone who yells "Allah Akbar" and murders 13 of our soldiers as a "terrorist", but we can take an established military institution and refer to it as an "enemy camp".

KingGlamis
We have a SERIOUS problem in this country when the media says our Commander In Chief is in the "enemy camp" when he is speaking in front of our military, the very military that he supposedly commands.

WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
k2rider
I agree with the others. I'm no fan of Obama or Mathews but he actually may be right about the "enemy camp" part since many (most?) soldiers probably don't like the guy at all. They will follow orders as expected but that doesn't mean they have to like or respect the guy. Soldiers are trained to respect the rank, not the man.

As I recall, candidate Obama called for the firing of Don Imus after his remarks. Wonder if President Obama will now call for the firing of Matthews?

Chris Matthews' propensity for saying dumb things on the air is almost limitless, but even for Matthews, this is ridiculous. . .

Great moments in "He said what?"

I get the comparison he was trying to make, but that's not the way to express it.

He said "maybe the enemy camp" due to the resentment and scepticism he percieved the cadets reaction to Obama to be. He basically was insinuating that the audience was a conservative group hence the enemy camp reference. It was more of a political analysis as opposed to a blanket statement that the military is the enemy. Dumb comment either way, but not as damning as other comments that douche has made IMO.

I'm not into politics at all but I don't see where the comments about this video are coming from, it's been blown way outta proportion.

Listen to the video, he said Obama was talking to a group of people that showed resentment, skeptisim, and no warm for what he had to say, therefore he thought "maybe" he had chosen to talk to the emeny camp, meaning a camp of people that were against what he had to say. This has nothing to do with the troops, the same term could have applied to any group of people he was talking to....

Who didn't see a problem with someone calling the troops the enemy? Theres just a few of us that don't think what he really said in that small clip amounts to what your question, as well as the topics description states. Again Matthews is still a douche.

Like hell they are..

The pres is spineless. The rules of engagement are BS.. They are being sent there with their hands tied.. To train them to be their own security? bs.gif
Take the cuffs off their hands and let the boots on the ground do what they are trained to do and we will be in and out in a few months..
Put them in as "trainers" and they will get killed.

Marines (all armed services) are trained to go in, take care of business, come home and have a beer. They are not trained to sit and wait.
This is total BS if you ask me.. Until we can get leaders in there that can pull the plug and whoop (_|_) - its just another Vietnam..

Hell - they are sending seals to a court marshal for popping a known terrorist in the lip.. Until that crap ends - our brave military are going to die at the hands of a spineless/clueless leader..

Apology NOT accepted! You don't say something like that by accident. That is how he thinks. It is not acceptable and no apology will do.

He only apologized because it was twisted and he doesn't want to deal with the pitbulls.
You watch... He'll get just as much crap if not more.. Bad move IMHO.

Growing up, I always viewed the military as an honorable choice and profession. What happened to those days?

We have too many people out there that take their freedoms for granted. Eff this guy. While he might not have meant exactly what he said, it is obviously his true feelings on the military as a whole. It's not an honorable profession in his eyes and since millions of Americans agree with him, why should he feel bad about bashing our military? His only real problem causing his to apologize is that he implicated the President in his comments. If it had not been for the White House staff doing some behind the scenes "What the f*ck did you do???", he would have never apologized.

Too many Freudian slips are overlooked or defended that someone didn't "really" feel that way. Sometimes even those that claim to be and act so "PC", get bit when their true feelings shine through. I'll bet a paycheck that this guy bashes the military when the microphone is turned off and this time, he forgot it was still on.

Once again...f*ck him.

mike , are you trying to say that the real reason we are in afghanastan is to put in a pipeline ? because thats how i read that , so if i am wrong ,disregard this , but if i am correct please take note of this .we attempt to get control and or restore control to a government with diplomatic relationships with us, so they do not continue or become a state that manufactures terrorist's . it only makes sense that when we see a region openly producing terrorist's that we intervene in someway , maybe with funds , with equipment , training or selling arms, or maybe even in a last resort ,with our miliraty . to allow training camps that are producing people with intent , to do us and our allies harm would be beyond irresponsible . if we know that we have people who are willing to use any means neccessary to harm us , we need to see that for what it is . just because it's thousands of miles away now ,does not mean it will not make it's way here , do i even need to give you that example . when we see people being trained , equipped and backed financialy to do us harm ,we have no choice but to attempt to extinguish that . does it mean we can completly eliminate the whackos ? no but we can certainly minimize their effectiveness , and in so doing we show we will not tolerate this and in some small way ,maybe make people think twice before they wage a war against us as the taliban have . to turn our heads and look the other way, will only prolong and strengthen the inevitable conflict . we live in country that has trouble understanding that some people dont focus on earning a living , taking care of their familes and enjoying a hobby or pastime like we do , they focus all their strength and resources on destruction and unfortunately we and people or nations like us are the subject of that focus . i believe that alot of us have gotten to the point that we believe we are immune from the violence and violent people of this world , even after a terrible day that showed us we are not immune .

we can no longer afford the luxury of complancency , and in so doing we must be willing to make a sacrafice . choosing to go into afghanastan as we have, allows us to wage war in a way ,and on a soil of our choosing . sometimes that sacrafice may be willing to allow our sons and daughters to go off to war . i feel that as americans we would have a difficlut time stomaching a war on our soil . some nations grow up and live with a conflict on their door steps , we have never had to live that way and i hope we never do . so with that said ,i feel that although we have a hard time accepting what we must do , we still must do it . maybe there are some other agendas out there ,but that does not diminsh the goal we have set . tim
