Is a red tail light required at the ISDRA even if you are not riding at night?

No, it is not required, but it is recommended.

CVC 38345 states when operated from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise, each motor vehicle which is not in combination with any other vehicle shall be equipped with at least one lighted red taillamp which shall be clearly visible from the rear. (a) Every such vehicle or vehicles at the end of a combination of vehicles shall be equipped with one lighted red taillamp when operated from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise.

Is a brake light required to be legal at the ISDRA?

Brake lights are not required on OHVs (CVC Division 16.5, Chapter 6), but they are recommended. However, street legal vehicles are required to have operating brake light.

So if you have ever been in a line of quads and you were the middle one at night with no tail light you are still legal. But if you are last in line with no tail light you can get a ticket.
If you ever received a ticket for no brake light, you should have fought it.
Did I get this right?

Are you asking questions? Steer clear of your front door, there about to kick it in.... ph34r.gif

IMO: A combination of vehicles means vehicles that are attached such as a truck and trailer(s), so if your truck tail lights were out but your trailer lights were functional you couldn't get a ticket. Quads riding in a line are not combined. They are seperate vehicles. Although it seems that if you are towing an OHV back to camp after dark and its tail lights don't function or are absent, you could get a ticket despite the functionality of your own because the towed OHV is last in line.

My tail/brake light housings are not visible to the eye. They are tucked away under the subframe..
Red lights really come alive though, they light up the night pretty good.

Think I'll have a prob?

Just trying to educate myself to the best of my ability. Just like starting a fire with gas, I really didn't realize that was illegal.

This comes directly from BLM. BLM Frequently asked questions.

I don't think you'll have a problem! My not be visible during the day (which doesn't matter), but it is obvious that they are visible at night.

I think its funny that you cant have a red light because you might look like an LEO but you must have a red tail light. coocoo.gif

heres one I didnt know about:

* If you are riding a motorcycle at the ISDRA off road, are you required to wear a helmet?

No, but it is recommended. Helmet use is required on ATVs only. CVC 38505.

It doesn't make any sense, but yes it's true.

Very few people know this law...probably many LEO's included.
