Ok, I have a short T-handle shifter in my rail that works great, but problem is the button on the T-handle rubs my right knee. Does anyone know of a good VW-style shifter that just has a round-type knob on top and pushes down like the stock VW shifter? I called a local VW shop the other day, and they said all they had were t-handle, or one with a round knob and a round deal on front that you pull up to go into reverse (can't remember the brand) but is was stock hight, not short. They said my only solution was to take a stock shifter, and cut it down!!!! Any suggestions??
Thanks

Budget constraints forced me to shorten a stock shifter. I cut apart a stock shifter. Put some washers under the pivot cup and welded it back together with a short piece of 1/2" tube. Welded some threaded rod in the end. Topped it off with an aluminum shift knob I had made way back in high school. The washers under the pivot cup lengthen the lower rod to shorten the shifter throw. I also have to add washers under the flange bolts to move the whole thing up. Similar to the quick shift kits.

Here's a link to Pacific Customs for the EMPI (Hurst) shifter. It shows the length of the stock height and the short. Year’s back Hot VW'S did article on the best after market shifters and the Gene Burg T handle was their first choice followed by the Hurst. EMPI now has the Patent on the Hurst shifter. I’ve had both the original Hurst (wish I took it out before I sold the car) and the EMPI and they are both great shifters. The only difference between the EMPI is it doesn’t have the word HURST molded on the side of the shaft.
