Just got these lights and put them on one of my utility trailers. Very cool. I had thought of just putting in two seperate 4" lights, one regular STT and one backup light but then I found these on Ebay. Just ordered some oval ones for the toy hauler. A little pricey at about $80.00 shipped but worth it to me.

Old light, will reuse side marker light as it is LED

light all wired up, did have to run a new wire from both lights to trailer 7 way plug, used the center spade for backup lights
Very bright. Now when backing up trailer at night I can actually see where the trailer is going!

I hear ya, I used to have the same problem, as soon as I buy a trailer, I ditch the cheap lights and either build my own enclosure or modify one so that the lights are protected by a shroud or I have even put some expanded metal in front of them to protect them. Have never had to replace one because it broke since.
