danno333 I know everything is close there but I wanted to camp toward the east rather than the west. Around the keyhole area rather than the midway or even farther west so thats what I am getting at. It is really no big deal I just have never been there on the Jan 1 date and have no idea what to expect other than large crowds and a hard time finding a good place to camp toward the east. If I have to go down to the west its no biggie just wanted ssome advice from persons that have been there during this time period but thanks for the comments.

I went last year at this time you will be able to get a spot. It will be a little crowded but no worries.

Actually, I prefer the west camps because you have more room to spread out. Especially on a busy weekend. Went on Thanksgiving and no availability on the east side but the west was pretty open. It is still only a mile from the west dunes and maybe a mile and a half to the main gate. Takes about 3 min in the rail or 5 min on a quad... Also you are that much closer to the bridge if you wanna go to Gordons for the drags or dunes.

We'll be camped on the west side from the 31st to the 3rd. Like it better over there, less crowded, closer for access to GW. Look us up if your out there, red Rhino with paddles, blue LED whip and checkered flag, WW 3505LE towed by a Chevy dually CC.
