first things first, I had this typed out and 40 pics loaded, hit the post topic button,,,,,board error!!!! logged me out without posting everything,,,,,,,I'll try it again.
I'm back from Dubai and all I can say is that was one hell of a great trip! Joe and I boarded a plane at LAX after upgrading to business class - best $900 I ever spent! 15+ hours later I was in the UAE! We were picked up and went to check in at the hotel, unpacked, repacked a bag and headed to the dunes for 3 days!!!
2 traditional tents and a 25' travel trailer - just in country - awaited us at camp. Met new friends and settled in. Camp cook - Sanji - was at work, cooking over an open fire, 2 huge pots. Rice and lamb, veggis and fresh fruits for dinner, served in the traditional style - large platters, men sitting all around eating with our hand (right only) and no utensils. Sitting on large rugs outside, outside under the stars, half a world away from home yet at home in the dunes.
Woke the next day to rain, on and off. It rained 3 of the first 5 days we were there and then again later on in the trip. They only get 6-8 days of rain a year. Some flooding as it rained very hard for a while, luckly we were done in the dunes and at the workshop by that time.
The dunes are much like Glamis but the sand had red and brown mixed in and there are no camels in G! We saw some penned up and some wild. 4 cars in camp and good people. Everyone I met throughout the trip was very friendly, courtieous and welcoming.
Duning was great, going to the 'hill' was more crazy than any weekend in Glamis I have seen. People everywhere, SUV's - Nissan Patrols, Toyota Land Cruisers - suv's and trucks, Range Rovers and Suzuki Samuri's, sand cars and quads. Very crowded and this was a regular weekend where they all gather to run the hill and show off and to watch the madness.
The Sand Limo Dubai shop is up and running strong. The Slinger we had in the booth at the show was the 5th car produced, #6 was in final assembly, #7 on the floor being tabbed and fitted for fiberglass and #8 in the jig. A lot of other cars in for service, Limo's, Funcos, Extreme, Tatum and a T4BB. Regular maintence to pulling motors and trans were being done.
Here are some pics, I'm no Loves Dunes so don't expect a SSSS spectacular. I have 5-600 pics and some video so I will post the highlights and get the video edited and posted to youtube - that will take a while.
Enjoy!
