Full Version: Never Done Buttercup - Any Advice?

Ok - so we've ONLY ever done G - want to try something else. We are in Phoenix and thought it might be nice to try Buttercup.

Any advice, suggestions or other would be greatly appreciated!

We did do a day trip to Gordon's (I think it was Gordon's - we were right off the 8) but that was years ago.

Oh yeah - is it the same for bikes as it is in G? Hubby is running a 450R.

Thanks!

Phoenix is in Socal? tongue.gif

Coming from AZ, Gordans is on the right of the 8 and Buttercup is on the left. If you get bored with buttercup it's not too far to go over to Gordans. Buttercup is small compared to gordans and especially Glamis, but we always had a good time there. Seems to be a much more "family" type attitude there

bikes? or cars?

there is really only one area with big bowls. towards the northwest end... if you go Southeast, the dunes are fun, but they are technical and very soft. We used to leave the culdesac, run west to the big bowls, loop around south a ways, then head back East in the second set. back to comp hill.. only takes about 45 minutes..

It is good if you don't have sand cars with you. The dunes are smaller but there are plenty of good lines to be had. Usually the crowds are a lot smaller too.

I'm a transplant to Phx! Always a so cal girl at heart! Don't even ride a Honda anymore! Have a Suzuki!

We're on quads & bikes. No cars.

Looking for a new place to try that is a bit more "family" oriented. Still love G but want to try something new.

May have to take a day trip down there over NY when we're in G. Can't we just head south on wash road and eventually get there? Hell we'll be halfway there anyway since we'll be in wash 22!

the camping area is tiny compared to all the choinces you have at g and the riding area is way smaller.

We are headed out to Buttercup for new years with the family. We have a good mixture of Cars, Quads, and Bikes in our group. The biggest advantage to buttercup is that the dunes (and vendors) are much closer to camp, so it's allot easier to let the little tikes ride close to camp, and take them for quick rides. In glamis it's a good 10 minute ride to a bowl, in gordon's it's 5, in buttercup, you practically camp in a bowl smile.gif That's our experience at least.

Thanks for all the info! I really appreciate it! beer.gif

I think Buttercup is one of my fav. Used to go there alot back in the day. I would do it again if I weren't going to hard pack now. Mother G is just way to busy anymore, especially if your on bikes. To many newbys with big horsepower cars with no experience...It seems less dusty than Gordons. I think the dust settles in the valley of Gordons more. JMO. But you'll have fun at any of them. Just be safe.....
