Does anyone know if the Shell station off Sidewinder sells the non-resident permits for rails?
Predator Chick
I just called them and they said no, they said to check with kb cycle or libby motor sports in yuma.
CHIZZLE
Cool, thanks.
Exotica1
Duners Diner has them
richierichaz
Chance we got ours at the diner last year...

Are they more expensive there? I think they're like $20-$25 here in town. Hopefully, PCP Offroad will be open tomorrow because I know they sell them and they're right down the street from my house.
Hank
Same price can be found on vendors row also..buttercup or gordon's side

Why do you need a non resident permit if you have the Arizona OHV sticker that should be all you need right

If you have AZ OHV sticker that is all you need, but maybe the rail isn't registered. We have an LT80 that we bought from Cali and we can't get it registered here in AZ because we can't find the VIN, so if it ever goes to the dunes we'll by the out of state permit for it.

Russ said he'll trade you one for a jack kit! rotf.gif We do live down the street, you know.

I believe everthing is supposed to be registered in addition to having either an OHV sticker or a Non-resident sticker.

If you're registered in your home state you don't need the CA out of state sticker. CA recognizes AZ's OHV registrations and likewise AZ recognizes CA's.

The out of state stickers are for people who live in states like NV where there isn't a way to register an OHV.

FWIW - having only a CA sticker on a bike if you're from AZ doesn't cover you. AZ law requires that you have it registered and CA law says the out of state stickers are for residents of states that don't offer registration. Also AZ has a law that allows officers to pull you over to check registration on any vehicle being transported. So simply towing your bikes from AZ to CA you open yourself up to being ticketed in AZ for not having them registered.

You can take the LT80 to the DMV and have a VIN issued so it can be registered. If you have a notorized and printed bill of sale you may be able to do it very easily. If they don't like the documentation you have you'll probably end up having to get a bond. In that case the DMV will set a value on the vehicle and you'll have to get a bond (try your insurance company) based on that amount. When I titled my rail they valued it at $1,000 and the bond cost me $110.

If that's the case why do they sell the non-resident permits here in AZ? My rail is registered with an RV plate and vin tag, no OHV tag. There's a certain weight limit to be able to use the OHV tag as well but I can't remember what it is. I figured if I have a plate and non-resident permit my bases should be covered. Haven't been hassled yet.

They also sell them in CA but CA residents can't use them.

Seriously though there are several reasons they sell them in AZ:

1) Lots of people coming to CA pass through AZ.

2) There are vehicles like some rails that can't be registered in AZ due to the weight limit - for them the out of state sticker is valid since they have no way to be registered in their home state.

There's no legal harm in having a out of state sticker if you're already registered - but you are paying into a system which is mostly used against OHV recreation which is never a good thing.

What system would that be?
richierichaz
You need a non resident sticker for anything over 1800 pounds even though it is registered in AZ with an rv plate and vin. The AZ OHV sticker is for anything under 1800 pounds and you do not need a non resident sticker if you have that. That is the way it way explained to me.

The CA OHMVR. Take a read through the dunes issues forum for all kinds of examples of how the CA state OHV commission has been subverted and used against the purposes it was founded for.
