Picked up a 89 Yz80 ($300) over the weekend. The thing runs
like a top. Going to get a paddle, 14in rim. Is there a different
number of cups for this size? Such as 6 or 8?
What would be the best? Just going to be a camp, wash area bike.
Thanks.

Best bet is a 5 cup for an 80. 6 will be to much for it.

I ran a 6 cup on the CR85 and it bogged really bad until it hit the powerband and still dogged. Changed over to a 5 cup and it was a different bike. Came on strong and didnt dog as much.

Just my .02

I think the only way to get a 5 paddle is to order it from skat. Might I suggest if that isn't in the budget, fitting a soft terrain tire from any of the major manufacturers and running it around 6 psi? Hitting a rock or other hard object at that pressure will probobly dink the rim so be carefull. The bike should pull pretty good though.

My boy runs a 6 cup Cheng Shin Sand Pro on YZ85 and rips the dunes no problem, climbs Test Hill in 3rd gear 3/4 throttle. Maybe the Honda just don't make the power to turn a 6. lol

All I can find so far are 6 cups. Where did you find the 5?
Where the Hell is Phelan?

Phelan is on the 18 going towards palmdale from victorville

When I bought the 85 it came with a 5 cup molded paddle. I bought a Skat Trak 5 cup and never got the chance to use it cuz I sold the bike.

Phelan is right next to Victorville / Hesperia / Wrightwoood - Its considered the high desert.

Chili, is the 80 for you or a child/young adult? If its for a light rider, a 6 paddle will be fine. I would recommend putting a larger main jet in it for the sand though. If it runs good as jetted now, run 2 sizes larger. And don't forget the whip.
