Well after losing my dog a little over a week ago and not having one day since that I haven't bawled like a baby...Marcella talked me into going to "look" at puppies. No man ever takes a woman to just go "look" at puppies.

So say hello to my new pup. He is a 4 week old Australian Shepard. The little guy was way to cute to let anyone else have him. I hate that I had to leave him with the breeder for a few more weeks.

Hopefully looking forward to getting him home will help us get over things and turn our house back into a home again. Poor little guy is going to have some big paws to fill and is going to get smothered by a dog loving family that needs him more than he'll ever know.

That dog doesn't have a chance going to a Niners Fan. Come on Mac, get you wife a better Jersey to go with that cute little puppy. Something in say Silver N Black. LOL

Congrats on the puppy and sorry about the loss.

Looks cute as heck! Yeah, you're right though, you pretty much commited to a new pup when you left the house tongue.gif

Why do breeders need to keep him for a certain amount of time?

Takes time to ween them and they learn a lot from the parents in a short time. The first few nights at home are always spent with the puppy crying at night.

They should be with their mom for 6 weeks at the least, and I have heard 8 weeks is even better, and they don't get their first shots til 6 weeks, so they need to stay with mom to be protected from germs.

Congrats, very cute puppy.

That dog is way to smart for you buddy.

Mac, Thanks so much for posting. I was wondering if you were going to get another pet and I didn't want to ask. I have had to put two of my pets down through my life and it hurts. I always went and got another friend (pet) from the pound. The replacement pet will never take the place of the one you lost, in your case (Shannon). You will always have your memories and you will gain a new friendship, of course I don't need to tell you that. It just is amazing what a pet can do for people. Again Congradulations...

Beautiful puppy Mac... great coloring and markings.

And you said it... NEVER take a woman to 'look' at any pets! I have two Guinea Pigs because I made that mistake.

We decided on "Duner" last night. We even went and got him a new dog tag last night.

Great name !!

Drove up to Riverside today to see the little guy. He's doing well and getting big. Just a few more weeks and I'll be able to bring him home.

I did find myself in a dilemma. One of the other female pups was so freaking cute and lovable. She kept following me around and would not leave me alone. Every time I picked her up she would just cuddle up and lick me to death. I have never owned 2 dogs at once though. The guy even offered me a killer deal on her if I was to take her to. This is killing me. She was the biggest love and I know would be a great dog.

Decisions, decisions...

It's always nice for your pup to have a friend (or sister in this case) to play with when you guys aren't around....

I've always had at least 2 dogs. Just seems like the right thing to do for the dog

Is it harder to train them or get them to share their attention with you vice the other dog?
rbjcampi
you will always be #1 to them. The other dog is just for them to play with when they can't be with you.Mine have always picked a member of the family as their favorite anyway. My older dog hangs out with the wife, middle one with me, and the smaller/younger one (thinks he's the biggest though) is all about my son. It's perfect because my 7yo and "his" dog have the same energy level laughing.gif

Just looked online and it seems to be a 50/50 split on people saying it's okay and others saying it will never work (getting 2 pups at the same time). I have never had a problem OTHER than having 2 males that just recently decided to establish their ranks. That seems to be over but since your looking at a male and female, doubt you'd have that problem. If your getting them from a professional breeder, maybe see what they say.

There is no dilemma!! Anything that loveable has to be yours. It was meant to be. There is no more work to two of them than one. Your family will love you for it. Do it!! If you need any encouragement I would be very happy to give it to you. Pictures of her please. Good luck with them.

Ask the Escos on getting 2 pups.. Seems to be working for them..

We've always had 2 dogs at a time..
Oldman
We have 3 dogs and two cats. One of the cats sleeps with the dogs and chases the two small ones around the house. We had brother and sister Akati's and that worked out OK.

Aussies have a bad rap. My first one was the most amazing dog I ever had and knew. She was active when you wanted her to be, mellow and calm otherwise. Every Aussie I have ever met was the same.

As far as herding, they herd kids just as well as cattle...laughing.gif

I can't imagine having another breed.
