I'll be going out to Johnson Valley this Saturday, just for the day, with my Teryx and I've never been there before. Possibly going with a small group and no one else has ridden there either. I know how to get there and I'm just wondering where we should enter, Camp Rock Road or further east. I want to make sure to check out the small sand hills and I'm looking for suggestions on what else to check out. Thanks.

Drive in at Camp Rock Road. You will figure out what to do from there. Camp right at Anderson Dry Lake. Follow the trails to the East. Look around and take notes on where to go that suits you for the next trip.

Soggy Dry Lake or Means Dry lake is closer to sand. They are farther to the east. Means Dry Lake entry is off Boone Rd. That is a fun lakebed with bomb craters to jump through. Lots of sand is behind the rocky hills to the north/east. Follow the trails. You cant reach this area from Camp Rock unless you pack gas.

Thanks for the info. How far east is Boone Rd. from Camp Rock Road? Is Boone Rd. a rough road, my truck isn't 4wd?

Boone Rd is about 20 miles past Camp Rock Rd. It is well graded with cement at the river crossings.
You could split the difference and go in at Bessemer Mine Rd and ride to the sand but road in might not be as good.
Camp Rock area is heavily raced and the trails are really whooped IMHO.

Cool. Have fun!
Be sure to explore for the sand hills to the north/east. A small set of dunes are a few miles west, keep going west and visit Soggy Dry Lake. Just like El Mirage, but smaller. You will have seen the main camping areas in Johnson Valley.

Made it back alive and had a great time. We went to Anderson Dry Lake and started from there. We took some trails east, took the road under the power lines to the north, rode some small hills just to the north of Anderson Dry Lake and then I let my kids take their first drives of the Teryx on a nice flat spot all to ourselves. Next trip we'll go further east to Boone Road. Capped it all off with dinner at Cafe 247 (place should have been closed, but they stayed open) with some good food.

I've never done any riding in JV...What toy do you think would be best for the area in general ?? Jeep, Quads, SXS, or Buggy ? So many toys so little time is my problem
