Really need some help with this---I have brand new Oakley O Frames that say on the box "Sand and Anti Fog" with clear and tinted lens. I use them with a Scorpion Helmet---The sand and dust was no problem---I was riding behind 2 Banshees and 3 two wheelers for several days, so I was in a constant spray of dust and sand and nothing came in the goggles at all.

But both the clear and the tinted fogged up bad both in the day and at night--I'm a new rider and it gets way too scary when they fog up completely and I can't see anything---Example--We went out on a night ride and they started racing, (think they forgot I was a newbie)--It got pretty intense and I could barely keep up with them---Then the top of the lens started fogging and I was riding with my head tilted up to see out the bottom half to be able to keep up---Then the whole lens fogged all at once right before a high transition---Which I missed completely and went sailing down the other side---Had to ride the rest of the way and back with no goggles at all.

Appreciate any help you can offer---(I would have had a really great time if it weren't for this problem sucking the joy out of it)---Thanks

Try spitting on the lenses and wiping them dry before you go for a ride.
CANTIDUNE
Try hand soap if the spit doesn't work....

Next post will probably say pee in em tongue.gif tongue.gif---But seriously what causes this---I noticed there are breathing vents all along the top of the goggles---But the goggles fit snugly against the helmet pads basically blocking off those vents---How do those that race quads and 2 wheelers keep the perspiration away from their lens---Thanks

Relax and stop sweating. Go to a dive shop and get some anti fog spray.

I use 'cat crap' on my goggles. laughing.gif I use it on mostly my visor for street and my goggles for snowboarding.

The lens supposedly have an anti fog film on them---Hard to relax when your new at it---Besides the guys dirt racing must be sweaty inside their helmets---It's a pretty hard workout, especially toward summer.

When i lifted my helmet up enough for the goggles to lift from my face---The air coming in seemed to help a little---So it seems like those vents at the top being blocked by helmet pads is the problem---But how to fix???---Thanks

I wasn't kidding about spitting on them. It works every time.

I used rain-x when I rode a bike. Workes great.

Are the goggles supposed to be breathing through the vents in the top and bottom---Again, mine are covered by the hellmet pads at both top and bottom---Why would they design vents there if they know the helmets are going to cover them???---Thanks

Who knows just spit in them and be done with it. tongue.gif I have also used my anti-fog from my scuba dive googles.

I think the sand goggles don't get enough airflow in them while wearing a helmet, I always used regualr goggles while wearing helmets.

Spitting works, just don't say that to your girlfriend sraptor.gif

So far----Spit, Hand Soap, Stop Sweating, Anti Fog Spray, Toothpaste, Cat Crap, Rain X---How about something that will help get the Oakley's to do what they were designed for---Thanks

50/50 mix baby shampoo and water then wipe dry. works great and doesn't bother your eyes.

Yes, your goggles need air flow to keep from fogging up! If your helmet is blocking the vents, then it will be hard to keep them from fogging up.. You can also try putting stay fresh or similar feminine pad across the top foam piece that touches your head and that might help keep the your goggles clear, since your sweat won't be dripping down,,

FYI, these things really work...............they are designed to keep the elements out first sraptor.gif
AZSandAddict
pee in them. you'll forget all about the fog.

You're saying the goggles, (these things) primary function is to keep the sand, (elements) out---Well they worked perfectly for that---But if you can't see where your going then they are dis-functional---I can't possibly be the only guy who gets heated up inside their helmet during hard riding---Hopefully someone will chime in and say, yeah I have Oakley's and had the same problem and here's what we did to correct it.

I thought I did, when I wear a helmet, I don't wear sand goggles. I wear regular off road goggles, they allow more air flow. Without airflow, you get steam and that fogs your goggles. The top of your helmet can sit right on top of the vents, thus you get no air flow with the sand goggles. The sand goggles use a close cell foam that keeps finer particles from entering. Regular off road googles use open cell foam, that keep most of everything out.

well this is my opinion, that is all I have...........oh wait, this is also what the Oakley rep told me when they introduced the sand goggles like 4 years ago

Geez---These things cost me $59---So want to figure a way to use them--I'm looking at them now---Perhaps if I wedge something in between the helmet pad and the top of the goggles rim---that might protrude them out far enough to let some ventilation flow???

I was at a bike shop today---Saw the difference in the venting for sand and off road---They sell Scorpion helmets, (which I have), so I tryed both---The venting on both of them still is covered up by the helmet pads------Also saw some fatter ones that were for over glasses and the vents on them were exposed some---So apparently the over the glasses ones are the ones needed to wear with helmets?????----Don't really want to shell out another $60 and have to throw out brand new Oakleys.

Anybody else got any ideas---Thanks

Maybe Im just stupid. You asked for answers and we gave them to you.

Its really simple, if you want to keep sand out, the only way is to also keep air out. You then will have a fogging issue. If you allow more air flow to keep the fog out, you WILL get sand in.

Your not going to have it both ways.

So again, you asked for solutions and you got plenty of them, tried and true, they work.

Maybe OB has an answer, he seems to have the answers for everything else that has ever been asked smile.gif

Or perhaps you could tell us what answer your looking for since you didnt like our answers....

BTW, I HAVE OAKLEY'S... I spit in them to keep them from fogging, and I dont get sand in my eyes...true story

The Sand Goggles will fog up if your not riding fast enough.. Sorry, but its the truth.. On a humid day or night, if your not moving, they will fog up..

In order to keep the sand out, the foam on the inside against your face is thick.. The vent foam is thick also.. hence - SAND in their name..

Go buy the cheapest goggles you can find and they wont fog up... Reason - cheap material between your face and goggles and vets are not covered in material.

Its not your helmet blocking the vents.. its the lack of speed or wind in your face..

Dont get all miffed at me calling you slow - I have had it happen lots of times.. You can reach up and pull them off your face for a second while riding and they will clear up - hence - needing fresh air..

My advice.. buy the cheap scotts and you will see fine.. Just dont get roosted or ride to close to your drag race buddies to keep the sand out..

i do wear the oakleys anti fog goggles too. my do at times also fogg up on me. what i did to help pervent it is loosen the goggles at the strap(back of helmet) so they are not so tight on you face to allow some more air to get inside. but not to loose then you will get sand in them.

Thank you to those who have posted up----Here are a few things of interest I found online---I ordered some ParkersPerfect and FogTech anti fog solutions, (in the packets)---Also Scott has a Vid Clip on their new Voltage addressing helmet fit---Smith goggles also said a good resolve is to use OTG, (over the glass) goggles even if you don't wear glasses, (holds vents out away from helmet pads)---Bobsters also addresses it by building 3 layers of goggle pad to hold it out.

SO FOR MR. GRUMPY WHO CHIMED IN tongue.gif tongue.gif ---LOOKS LIKE THE ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR IS KEEPING THE GOGGLE VENTING AS FAR AWAY FROM THE HELMET PADS AS POSSIBLE---THE REST ARE EXTRA OPTIONS
