Anyone?

Live in fullerton. We have a nice vet who seems to know what he is doing, but his wife just rang me up for 150 bucks for 2 shots and a visit. She spent 5 minutes or less on my cat and charged me 50 bucks for the visit, on top of making me wait over an hour (not the first time either).

That's effectively 600 an hour! I have an ivy league dermatologist who is less expensive!!! WTF?!?!?

Anyway, anyone have a decent vet who isn't out of touch?

Try Katella Animal Hospital - Used to go there from Cerritos. Can't remember the cross streets - want to say it was Bell & Katella...can't remember - great Vet though.

its funny, but everybody seems to want world class service and care for a pittance. example. plumber wants his broken arm fixed, but gripes about the doctor bill when its all said and done. doctor wants his plumbing unclogged on sunday afternoon becasue his toilets dont flush and shower wont drain, but gripes that he has to pay the plumber 4 hours minimum double or triple time for coming out on a sunday, his day off, to fix it in less than an hour. vicious circle isn't it? paying for someones experience costs money, bottom line.

remember this when you graduate your ivy league school, open your own business, and expect to make millions.

i used to use the huntington beach animal hospital, great care, but you pay for it. if you want cheap animal health care, go to county shelter. i believe there are quite a few low cost facilities available for people as well with lower incomes. you may be eligible, seeing as you are a full time student.

Try a feed store. Many have the injections ready to go. You pick the stuff up and do it yourself.

I use Anaheim Feed and Pet Supply for the injections. They have clinics on weekends. Call for the days.

I know what you mean. Vets do charge a lot more now it seems than just a few years ago. Exponentially more, and the service has not gone upwards. That is not 'World Class Service', that is gouging.

The vet weighs our dog Sissy when we bring her in. I think that is when they start making up the bill. She weighs 165 lbs, and I have never gotten out of the vet's office for less than 150 dollars.

I do not believe that ANYONE should make their customers wait an hour, especially when they have an appointment. I fire the vet or my own personal doctor the first time they try that. I tell them too. Their time is not more important than mine. Period.

Rant Off.

i know its not OC but I used this vet after being referred by a board member. They have excellent rates.

This is the thread that discussed the vet's office.

Our family has a wonderful vet down here in East County San Diego area, so that won't help you.

One thing I will say is to never, ever go to one of those Banfield clinics in Petsmart. Talk about overcharging!
We were living in AZ and our cat developed a giant wart/tumor on his hind leg. We didn't have a regular vet for him yet, so we took him into Banfield for shots and to have the wart looked at. It turned out to be a benign feline papilloma wart. They gave us an estimate of almost $900 to have it removed. That was ridiculous, so we went to a private vet recommended by MichaelAZ and they only charged us $300 which included a total teeth cleaning.

Banfield's estimate was itemized all the way to the point of how much they were going to charge us for the gauze to wrap the leg after the surgery.

you can always do the shots your self..really not that hard to do except rabies that a vet has to do

some vets have shot hours only and don't charge for the visit

just a thought

Never said anything about low cost.

But this is a vet, and I'm talking about a cat. I've yet to meet a doctor who charges quite that steep other than emergency rooms, and those guys get away with it because it's an emergency. The price tag probably wouldn't be so bothersome if I didn't sit around and wait over an hour to even be seen.

Thanks everyone who was constructive and gave some advice.
