Full Version: Ltz400 On/off Fuel Switch Question

DEEZ RACING
I know that the Z400 doesn't have a off switch ont he fuel switch. Its just has a On, Prime, and Reserve. I am asuming that when the Fuel lever is in the on position it will only flow when the quad is turned on. For some reason mine will only flow when it is on the prime position. My question is why sould this happen and should I replace this switch wiht one that has a on and off witch as well as a prime and reserve.
DEEZ RACING
I see how it works but for some reason mine will not flow on the on position. If there is fuel in the bowl of the carb it will run until it uses it all then it will run out of gas in the carb and die. My bike will only run in the Prime position for some reason. This just started tonight. Never had a problem with it before.
SHOCKER
Hmm, mine works

Ahhh, so that's how that works. My wife has a kfx400 and I went to stand it on end, I turned to prime, not know that it is prime (thinking off) and the effn fuel started running all over the floor in my trailer. I was like WTF where is the off postion, stupid effn POS! I was going to replace it with one that has on off position. Good info to have thanks

deez...

I had that problem too. Turned out it was the $30+ fuel cap! There's a spring mechanisim in there. In my case it was easy to find because the whole mechanisim was about to fall off, and wouldn't open up. You might try it in the run position with the cap off and see if that helps. Otherwise, I'd say there is an obstruction in one of the vent hoses somewhere.

I'd say the best solution would be to go buy a Polaris Predator. Its not a cheap fix but its a fix all right. It should look kinda like this

Predetors are a good bike if you are around 600 pounds, otherwise the bike is just to big for average sized people.
SHOCKER
Yeah they are just to heavy, the do more good as an anchor than a bike icon_smile.gif

Ok Shocker, Easter weekend. I'll ride Boyers anchor and you can ride your zippy Z400 with the Sand (move) Stars. I think I need to remind you of how good those boat anchors, EVEN WITH GECKO'S, can go up the hill. I'll even bring along with me the extra 70 lbs I have on you.

Sorry Deez, just realized we're starting to turn your thread in another direction.
I too have a Z and DID have a similiar issue. We took the carb off, cleaned it all out but didn't find anything wrong. We put it back on and it's worked fine ever since. icon_confused.gif Of course, that was just after I decided to fill the tank with Diesel but, I'm not admitting that just yet.
I'm getting ready to order up a new 41mm FCR carb though. I like the simplicity of the stock carb but I keep hearing how it really doesn't allow that motor to run like it should. Good luck!

Guys,
Please stop hi-jacking tech threads. There are forums for this..

- DEEZ - there is a problem with one of the following:
Fuel Cap not venting
Vacume line pinched or not on
Diaphram that allows the fuel to flow is bad

The diaphram is pulled back with the vacume and allows fuel to flow by way of gravity.

If you dont feel like trouble shooting it, simply replace it with a ON, RES, OFF one.. Be sure to plug the vacume inlet though.

SHOCKER
On z400central.com there was somebody selling petdork*s that flowed more fuel and i think they had the on off and res. on them but not sure, this was i while back though

Hey effinbees77 dont be upset that my bike looks better than yours, when are you getting that 450 kit?

SHOCKER
So, the raptor looks better than the predator, my bike only ways 370-380

WELL IT TURNED OUT TO BE A SIMPLE FIX. THE FILTERS INSIDE THE TANK ON THE FUEL LEVER WERE CLOGGED. TOOK IT OUT CLEANED IT UP AND NO PROBLEMS SINCE. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR PREDATOR BASHING AND A FEW ANSWERS.
SHOCKER
Well that good, i guess, at least it wasnt something big icon_smile.gif
